    Installation and application guide for Leviton's Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels (part family LV47606x / LV47603x) — modular telephone, data, and video distribution panels that mount into Leviton Structured Media enclosures (140, 280, or 420) using installer-friendly Push-Lock Pin mounting.

    Application & Planning

    These panels connect basic telephone service, data (with a network hub), and — on selected versions — video service for home or office cabling. Each pre-configured panel is built from one or more of the following modules: a 1x9 Bridged Telephone Module, a Category 5e Voice & Data Module, a Telephone Line Distribution Module (TLDM), a Telephone Patching Expansion Module, or a 6-way Video Splitter. Additional Category 5e Voice & Data Modules (PN 47603-C5), 1x9 Bridged Telephone Modules (PN 47603-110), and Telephone Patching Expansion Modules (PN 47609-EMP) are sold separately for expanding an existing panel.

    Before installing, plan cable routing and determine how many outlet locations are needed for phone, fax, modem, and TV service.

    Panel Installation

    Align the mounting pins with the grid holes on the back of the enclosure. The module must be mounted horizontally. With the mounting pin plungers in the "out" position, press the unit into the grid at the desired location, then secure it by pushing the plungers in.

    Component Installation

    Category 5e Voice & Data Module

    Application: Terminates remote connections (from wall outlets) for voice, fax, modem, and computer. Use it to provide telephone service to an outlet or to link to a network hub.

    • Run twisted-pair cable to the module from wall outlets. Strip approximately 3" of outer jacket from the cable.
    • Match the wire color-coding to the colors on the 110 IDC connector. The module supports the T568A wiring pattern — all four pairs of each cable must be terminated.
    • Note: Wall outlets must be compliant with T568A wiring configurations.

    Telephone Line Distribution Module (TLDM)

    Application: Routes incoming telephone service throughout the home or office in combinations of 2 or 4 lines. Includes a dedicated Security Port for connecting a security system, providing over-ride protection on a chosen line in an emergency, plus a Test Port and Auxiliary Disconnect Outlet (ADO) for testing incoming service from one central location.

    • Run twisted-pair cable to the module from the telephone company demarcation point. Strip about 3" of jacket, then punch individual pairs down on the 110 IDC connector labeled "From Demarcation."
    • The short pre-installed 8-position patch cord bridges the Test Port and the ADO, connecting incoming lines to the distribution ports below in 2- or 4-line combinations.
    • To test incoming service: Disconnect the patch cord from the Test Port (this deactivates the ADO and additional ports) and plug a tester into the Test Port.
    • To restore service after testing: Reconnect the 3½" 8-position patch cord from the Test Port to the ADO.

    Security connection: If a security system is installed, the incoming security line must be routed through the top two IDC slots marked "Line In" (upper left), looped through the bottom two "Line Out" slots, then patched to the D4 connector before routing to distribution jacks. If the security system is later removed, the TLDM must be rewired.

    To connect phone service from the TLDM to wall outlets, run a patch cord from the appropriate TLDM port to the desired port on the Category 5e Voice & Data Module.

    Telephone Patching Expansion Module

    Application: Works with the Category 5e Voice & Data Module, the TLDM, and other Structured Media modules to expand a 4-line telephone distribution system to 7 additional locations.

    • Run twisted-pair cable to the module from the telephone company demarcation point. Strip 3" of jacket, then punch individual pairs down on the 110 IDC connector at the top of the module.
    • Punching down incoming lines at the top bridges them to all connectors on the module.
    • Alternate connection: Patch a cable from an installed TLDM port to a Telephone Patching Expansion Module port to activate all 110 IDC ports on that module.

    1x9 Bridged Telephone Module

    Application: Connects up to 4 telephone lines to 9 wall outlets, operating up to 9 separate telephones for voice, fax, and modem in a bridged wiring configuration.

    • Run twisted-pair cable from the telephone entry point to the module, punching the phone line down into any one of the 110 IDC connectors (this activates that line on all IDC connectors).
    • Connect twisted pairs from wall outlets throughout the home to the remaining nine 110 IDC connectors, wiring each to whichever line is desired at that location.

    6-Way Video Splitter

    Application: Distributes a basic video signal from one input to up to six televisions. If the local signal needs active amplification, use an optional video amplifier module.

    • Install coax cable from the cable TV service or an external antenna to the 6-way Video Splitter. Terminate the incoming cable with a male F-type connector and screw it into the central "IN" connection point.
    • Connect the other 6 "OUT" ports the same way — all connected televisions receive the same signal.
    • Cap any unused output ports with 75-ohm terminators (Part No. 40984-000) to reduce ghosting or signal disturbance.

    110 IDC Punchdown Procedure

    Seat the cable pairs in the appropriate slots per the wiring configuration. Starting at the blue position of the 4-pair block, connect the white wire of each pair through to the brown position of the block. Each pair corresponds to one telephone line (Line 1 = blue, Line 2 = orange, Line 3 = green, Line 4 = brown).

    • Using the supplied plastic tool: Push the cable into the slot with the tool, then trim excess cable with diagonal pliers.
    • Using a professional impact tool: Seat the tool with the blade positioned as shown in the manual's illustration, then press straight down until the tool impacts the cable into the slot and cuts the excess — you'll hear a click.

    Safety Information

    • Never install communications wiring or components during a lightning storm.
    • Never install communications components in wet locations unless the components are specifically designed for wet-location use.
    • Never touch uninsulated wires or terminals unless the wiring has been disconnected at the network interface.
