Specification sheet for the Leviton Decora Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor (Cat. No. ODS10-ID), a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor for automatic commercial lighting control.

    Application

Leviton's ODS10-ID Decora Wall Switch PIR Occupancy Sensor provides automatic lighting control for energy savings and convenience in commercial applications such as small offices, conference rooms, lounges, and classrooms. It switches incandescent lamps and fluorescent/low-voltage lighting with electronic or magnetic ballasts. A manual override switch can keep lights OFF while an area is occupied — useful during slide or film presentations. The unit installs in place of a single-pole wall switch in a standard wall box and requires a ground connection.

    Operation

The ODS10-ID uses PIR detection through a segmented Fresnel lens that divides the field of view into sensor zones. When a person moves into or out of a zone, the sensor detects motion and switches lights ON, remaining ON as long as someone is moving through the zones. A delayed-OFF time adjustment prevents lights from switching OFF while the space is occupied — a person must pass through a zone at least once during the selected delayed-OFF interval to keep lights on. An LED indicator blinks each time activity is detected. Switching is timed to the AC power curve's zero-crossing point to minimize contact wear from electronic ballast in-rush currents.

    Push-Button Manual Override

If lights are OFF, pressing the button turns them ON and keeps them ON as long as the room is occupied (they turn OFF once vacant and the delayed-OFF time expires). If lights are ON, pressing the button turns them OFF and keeps them OFF even if the room is occupied — particularly useful for media presentations. Lights return to normal operation by pressing the button again, or automatically remain off if no motion is detected during the delayed-OFF interval.

    Manual-ON / Auto-OFF Mode

In this mode the unit does not turn lights ON automatically on motion detection — lights can only be turned ON via the push-button. They remain ON as long as activity is detected in the sensor zones, and shut OFF automatically once the space is unoccupied and the delayed-OFF time expires. Lights can also be manually turned OFF at any time. Ideal where manual ON switching is required but automatic OFF switching is desired for energy savings.

    Field of View

The ODS10-ID provides a 180° field of view with a maximum coverage area of approximately 2100 square feet. Maximum sensing distance in front is 40 feet, and 30 feet to each side. A "minor-motion" zone detects small body movements to keep lights ON even without significant movement; the remainder of the field of view ("major-motion" zone) requires larger movements.

    Enhanced Adjustment Options

    • Blinders: Integral sliding blinders on each side of the lens restrict the 180° field of view down to 32°, useful to prevent unwanted detection in hallways.
    • Time (delayed-OFF): Preset at 10 minutes; choose from 30 seconds (walking test only), 10, 20, or 30 minutes.
    • Range: Adjustable from 100% to 36% of total coverage area, letting the unit ignore motion at the far end of its range.
    • Light (ambient light override): Prevents the sensor from switching lights ON when there is ample natural sunlight, regardless of occupancy. Adjustable from approximately 2 foot-candles (2 lux) to 500+ foot-candles (500+ lux). Factory preset with no override in effect.

All adjustments require removing the control panel cover (to avoid tampering); adjustments use a small flat-head screwdriver, and field-of-view blinders are finger-tip operated.

    Features & Benefits

    • Low-profile design eliminates obtrusive "scanning-device" look; Decora styling coordinates with Leviton's Decora wiring devices and wallplates
    • 180° field-of-view provides ~2100 sq. ft. of coverage suitable for offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and lounges
    • Convenient push-button for manual ON/OFF switching at any time
    • Segmented Fresnel lens with an extensive "small motion" detection area
    • Horizontal field of view adjustable between 180° and 32° via integral blinders
    • LED indicator flashes when motion is detected, verifying detection is active
    • One unit works for either 120V or 277V lighting; compatible with electronic and magnetic ballasts
    • Relay switches at the zero-crossing point of the AC power curve for maximum contact life
    • Fits standard wallbox, replaces a single-pole wall switch, and is gangable with other units
    • UL Listed and CSA Certified; complies with California Title 24 Energy Code and FCC regulations
    • Limited Five-Year Warranty

    Installation & Wiring

The ODS10-ID may replace a single-pole wall switch mounted in a standard wallbox. The unit must be properly grounded to operate. Integral blinders may restrict the field of view to prevent unwanted detection of hallway traffic. Position it at least 4 feet away from HVAC registers. When powered up, the unit takes approximately one minute before beginning normal operation.

Wire Designation: Line — Black; Load — Blue; Ground — Green. The white wire connects to Neutral, and the load connects to the controlled load.
