Specification sheet for the Leviton Decora Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor (Cat. No. ODS10-ID), a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor for automatic commercial lighting control.
Leviton's ODS10-ID Decora Wall Switch PIR Occupancy Sensor provides automatic lighting control for energy savings and convenience in commercial applications such as small offices, conference rooms, lounges, and classrooms. It switches incandescent lamps and fluorescent/low-voltage lighting with electronic or magnetic ballasts. A manual override switch can keep lights OFF while an area is occupied — useful during slide or film presentations. The unit installs in place of a single-pole wall switch in a standard wall box and requires a ground connection.
The ODS10-ID uses PIR detection through a segmented Fresnel lens that divides the field of view into sensor zones. When a person moves into or out of a zone, the sensor detects motion and switches lights ON, remaining ON as long as someone is moving through the zones. A delayed-OFF time adjustment prevents lights from switching OFF while the space is occupied — a person must pass through a zone at least once during the selected delayed-OFF interval to keep lights on. An LED indicator blinks each time activity is detected. Switching is timed to the AC power curve's zero-crossing point to minimize contact wear from electronic ballast in-rush currents.
If lights are OFF, pressing the button turns them ON and keeps them ON as long as the room is occupied (they turn OFF once vacant and the delayed-OFF time expires). If lights are ON, pressing the button turns them OFF and keeps them OFF even if the room is occupied — particularly useful for media presentations. Lights return to normal operation by pressing the button again, or automatically remain off if no motion is detected during the delayed-OFF interval.
In this mode the unit does not turn lights ON automatically on motion detection — lights can only be turned ON via the push-button. They remain ON as long as activity is detected in the sensor zones, and shut OFF automatically once the space is unoccupied and the delayed-OFF time expires. Lights can also be manually turned OFF at any time. Ideal where manual ON switching is required but automatic OFF switching is desired for energy savings.
The ODS10-ID provides a 180° field of view with a maximum coverage area of approximately 2100 square feet. Maximum sensing distance in front is 40 feet, and 30 feet to each side. A "minor-motion" zone detects small body movements to keep lights ON even without significant movement; the remainder of the field of view ("major-motion" zone) requires larger movements.
All adjustments require removing the control panel cover (to avoid tampering); adjustments use a small flat-head screwdriver, and field-of-view blinders are finger-tip operated.
The ODS10-ID may replace a single-pole wall switch mounted in a standard wallbox. The unit must be properly grounded to operate. Integral blinders may restrict the field of view to prevent unwanted detection of hallway traffic. Position it at least 4 feet away from HVAC registers. When powered up, the unit takes approximately one minute before beginning normal operation.
Wire Designation: Line — Black; Load — Blue; Ground — Green. The white wire connects to Neutral, and the load connects to the controlled load.
