Application

The Hi-Fi 2 4x4 is a compact version of the Hi-Fi 2 distributed audio system, ideal for controlling, sharing, and listening to audio throughout a home or small building. The system can be controlled via the included remote control, an included wall-mounted Volume Source Control (VSC), or directly through free iOS applications. Different zones can play different sources at different volume levels simultaneously, or all zones can be set to the same source and volume.

Main Assembly and Amplifiers

This is described as the most compact 4-zone, 160W system on the market at the time of publication — 20W per channel at 8 ohms. It mounts directly into a Leviton Structured Media Center wiring enclosure at half-width. A variable line-out amplification output is available for zone 1 (in addition to the built-in amps), along with page/mute and system-on jacks.

Volume Source Control (VSC)

The VSC features a keypad interface — a single-gang Decora-style unit with 4 buttons that adjusts volume and controls power and source. A white OLED display shows the source name, a volume bar chart, bass, treble, balance, and other settings. A routed IR repeater function allows use of source-equipment remote controls, and a small hand-held IR remote provides control of the Hi-Fi 2 from an armchair. The VSC connects to the amp with a single Cat5 cable. VSCs come standard with the Hi-Fi 2 4x4.

Remote Input Modules (RIMs)

There are 4 local inputs on the amplifier board for broadcast, Internet, or satellite radio tuners and other sources. The 4 sources can be local or remoted via a RIM connected over Cat5. Two RIMs come standard with the Hi-Fi 2 4x4 for the most popular remote inputs (home theater, kitchen TV, iPod dock, den entertainment center); more RIMs are available separately.

Bluetooth RIM

Bluetooth RIMs allow wireless streaming or stored music playback from an iPhone, iPad, tablet, notebook computer, etc. Similar in function to the standard RIM, the Bluetooth RIM adds wireless connectivity plus an input module for wired devices like radio tuners and DVD changers.

HAI Dock

The HAI Dock provides access to music on an iPod Touch or iPhone over a wired or wireless network, playable in any audio zone connected to the Hi-Fi 2 system. It pulls metadata (song, album, artist) from the device and allows browsing podcasts and playlists from a touchscreen. Simply plug the dock into a RIM or BRIM — the device is shared and also charges while docked.

iOS App

Leviton's stand-alone apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch provide total control over the audio experience — select a source to play in a single room or throughout the home, adjust volume levels, change tracks, and tweak bass/treble/balance. The apps are free with no subscription fees.

Need More Capability?

The 4x4 system provides a maximum of four zones and four sources. If more capability is required, Leviton's larger Hi-Fi 2 8 Zone, 8 Source system provides 8 zones and 8 sources and can be expanded to 16 zones and 8 sources.
