Installation and use instructions for the Leviton 47611-5PT and 47611-8PT 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Switches for Structured Media Centers.
This manual covers the Leviton 5-Port (47611-5PT) and 8-Port (47611-8PT) 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Switches, used to create a small Local Area Network (LAN). Patch cords connected from the switch to a structured wiring system distribute network data to devices throughout the home.
10/100 Mbps is a specification for ethernet networks based on twisted pair cabling. The maximum segment length for 10/100 Mbps networks is 100 meters. The cable and connectors are commonly referred to as Category 5 or Category 5e patch cords with RJ-45 connectors.
To establish 10/100 Mbps connections you'll need: a twisted pair Category 5/5e patch cord for switch-to-NIC connections, and a twisted pair Category 5/5e patch cord for switch-to-switch connections ("switch cascading").
Switches, hubs, and similar network devices are uplinked to the switch with straight-through Category 5 or 5e cabling. Connect a Category 5/5e cable from the Uplink port on your network device to any port on the switch.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules, which provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. If this equipment causes interference to radio or television reception, try reorienting/relocating the receiving antenna, increasing separation between the equipment and receiver, connecting the equipment to a different outlet/circuit, or consulting the dealer/an experienced radio-TV technician.
