    Overview

    The Legrand/OnQ DA1054 4-Port Gigabit Enhanced Router/Switch is a flexible hardware-configurable product designed to be used as a router with an integrated 4-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, or as a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch when paired with a 3rd-party external router. It connects a small group of PCs to a high-speed broadband Internet connection — up to 253 users can have simultaneous high-speed Internet access through a single external IP address, using built-in NAT technology which also serves as an Internet firewall.

    Note: Legrand Unity systems need firmware release 2.2.x or later to properly function with this router.

    Physical Description

    • DC Input connector — from power supply
    • WAN (Internet) Port — 8-position RJ-45 jack (to Cable/FIOS/DSL modem)
    • Local Switch Ports — 8-position RJ-45 jacks (to room outlets)
    • Routing Switch — disconnects the router from the 4-port switch when using an external router, converting the WAN port into a 5th switch port (requires power recycle)
    • Reset Button — a quick press cycles power; a 10-second press-and-hold resets to factory defaults (clears User Name, Password, IP Address, Subnet Mask)

    Status LEDs

    • Power — solid green when power is supplied

    Installation

    Best installed during new construction in two phases:

    Rough-In

    1. Run a single dedicated Cat 5e/6 cable in the walls from the structured wiring enclosure to each outlet location requiring Internet service (leave extra cable at both ends). Run Cat 5e/6 at least 12" from electrical cabling (preferably a separate stud cavity), crossing electrical cables at a 90° angle. Use loose Velcro-style ties; if stapling, use specialty staples that won't compress the cable.
    2. Install a single-gang box or low-voltage bracket at each outlet, with extra cable left in the box or fished out after drywall installation.

    Trim-Out

    1. Terminate the pulled Cat 5e/6 at each outlet with a 110 punchdown tool onto an RJ45 insert, then install the wallplate.
    2. In the structured wiring enclosure, terminate cables from the outlets onto a Legrand Network Interface Module (110 punchdown) or with RJ-45 plugs (e.g., using the EZ RJ45 Modular Plug Hand Tool, P/N 364555-01) for direct connection to the DA1054.
    3. Mount the DA1054 in the structured wiring enclosure by slipping the tabs into the square holes and securing with the push pin in the round hole.
    4. If outlets were punched down at a Network Interface Module, connect Cat 5e/6 patch cables from the module to the DA1054's input ports.
    5. Connect a Cat 5e/6 patch cable from the DA1054's WAN port to the Cable/DSL modem, and ensure the routing switch is in the "On" position.
    6. Power the DA1054 with its AC-to-DC adapter, plugged into an AC source.

    Use proper tools and standard TIA 568A rules — a Cat 5 cable stripper, RJ45 crimp tool, and 110 punchdown tool.

    Initial Configuration

    1. Connect a PC (with Ethernet NIC set to DHCP) to one of the local switch ports, with the front-panel routing switch in the "On" position.
    2. Open a browser and go to the router's default IP address 192.168.40.254.
    3. Log in with username admin and password admin (default).
    4. Use the Setup Wizard (top-left) for step-by-step initial configuration, or configure manually via the left-hand menu (Operation Mode, Management, etc.) to change User Name/Password, upgrade firmware, restore factory defaults, or backup/restore settings.

    If manually reconfiguring your PC's IP settings, write down current settings first, or temporarily assign a static IP like 192.168.40.10 on the router's default subnet (192.168.40.x).

    Setup Wizard Steps

    1. Select WAN Access Type — choose Gateway mode or Bridge mode per your network environment.
    2. Choose Time Zone — sets Time Zone and Daylight Saving Time, affecting Log entries and Firewall settings.
    3. Setup LAN Interface — default IP address 192.168.40.254, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (changeable).
    4. Setup WAN Interface — enter info for your WAN Access Type. DHCP Client mode auto-obtains IP info from your ISP, so no manual entry needed.

    Advanced Settings Overview

    • Firewall: Port Filtering, IP Filtering, MAC Filtering, Port Forwarding, URL Filtering, DMZ
    • QoS: Enable QoS and set bandwidth-limit rules by IP or MAC
