Jasco ZW4006 (24770) — Z-Wave Plus In-Wall Smart Motion Switch Manual

Installation manual for the Jasco Z-Wave Plus In-Wall Smart Motion Switch, Model ZW4006 / part 24770 — a certified Z-Wave lighting control switch with built-in motion sensor and three modes of operation (Occupancy, Vacancy, Manual).

Important — Load Rating

The fixture controlled by the Z-Wave In-Wall Smart Motion Switch must not exceed 960 watts (incandescent), 1800W (15A resistive), or ½ HP motor. The switch is designed only for use with permanently installed fixtures.

Single-Switch Wiring Installation

WARNING — SHOCK HAZARD: Turn OFF the power to the branch circuit for the switch and lighting fixture at the service panel. All wiring connections must be made with the power OFF to avoid personal injury and/or damage to the switch. This device is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations in the U.S., or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations in Canada. If unsure or uncomfortable performing this installation, consult a qualified electrician.

1. Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box, then verify power is OFF to the switch box.
2. Remove the wallplate.
3. Remove the switch mounting screws.
4. Carefully remove the switch from the switch box. DO NOT disconnect the wires.
5. There are up to five screw terminals on the switch — GROUND (Green/Bare), LOAD (Black, connects to lighting), LINE/Hot (Black, connects to power), TRAVELER (Red/Other, only for 3-way installations), NEUTRAL (White). Match these terminals to the wires connected to the existing switch.
6. Disconnect the wires from the existing switch, labeling them according to the previous terminal connections.
7. For multiple-gang boxes, it may be necessary to break off one or both sides of the scored tabs on the front yoke — this does not affect the switch's electrical rating.
8. Wiring is rated for copper wire only. Use 14 AWG or larger wire suitable for at least 80°C for Line (Hot), Load, Neutral, Ground, and Traveler connections. Strip insulation 1" (25mm) for screw terminals, or 5/8" (16mm) for enclosure holes. UL specifies a tightening torque of 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm).
   1. Connect the green or bare copper ground wire to the GROUND terminal.
   2. Connect the black wire that goes to the fixture to the LOAD terminal.
   3. Connect the black wire from the electrical service panel (Hot) to the LINE terminal.
   4. Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal (use a jumper wire if needed). Note: the traveler terminal is only used for 3-way/4-way wiring and should remain insulated in a 2-way (one switch, one load) system.
9. Insert the switch into the switch box, being careful not to pinch or crush wires.
10. Secure the switch to the box using the supplied screws.
11. Mount the wallplate.
12. Reapply power at the fuse box or circuit breaker and test the system.

For 3-way installations, refer to the Jasco Add-on Switch manual — a Jasco Add-on switch is required for multi-switch (3-way or 4-way) installations. Connecting the traveler terminal of this switch to a standard, non-Jasco switch will cause damage or improper function. Do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until Jasco Add-on switches are correctly installed.

Basic Operation

Occupancy mode (default): the light turns on automatically when motion is detected and off when motion is no longer detected. Can also be controlled remotely with a Z-Wave controller.

Vacancy mode: the light turns on by pressing the top button and off automatically when motion is no longer detected. Also controllable remotely.

Manual mode: the light only turns on/off manually from the front panel, or remotely with a Z-Wave controller.

Programming Options

Many controllers offer programming changes through their application. Changes can also be made directly at the switch through button presses. Programming capabilities vary by program and connected device.

To set the mode: press and hold the button until the LED flashes the correct number of times (guide is controller-displayed; see Section 4 diagram in the original manual). Time-out duration does not apply in manual mode.

Time-out duration (time the light stays on after motion stops): 5 sec, 1 min, 5 min (default), 15 min, 30 min. Set by pressing and holding the button until the LED cycles the correct number of flashes.

Light sensing (motion sensor only turns light on if the room is dark; does not apply in vacancy or manual modes): On (default) or Off.

Motion sensitivity (amount of motion required to turn on the light): High, Medium (default), or Low.

Adding Your Device to a Z-Wave Network

1. Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to include the smart switch in the Z-Wave network.
2. Once the controller is ready to include your smart switch, press and release the top or bottom button on the switch to include it.

To Exclude/Reset the Device

1. Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to exclude a device from the network.
2. Once the controller is ready to exclude your device, press and release the top or bottom button to exclude it.

To Return to Factory Defaults

Press and release the top button ten times. Note: only use this if your network's primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Changing Button Color

1. Pinch both tabs down to release the button.
2. Lift the button up and off.
3. Put the new button onto the switch, inserting the tabs near the motion sensor first, then the tabs on the opposite side.
4. Repeat for the button on the other side.

Z-Wave Interoperability

This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers/applications. All non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor. This device supports the Association Command Class (3 Groups): Group 1 supports Lifeline / Binary Switch Report; Group 2 supports Basic Set, controlled by the local load; Group 3 supports Basic Set, controlled by pressing the On or Off button. Each Association Group supports 5 total nodes.

Safety Warning — Appliance Control

WARNING: Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances — operation may occur in a different room than the controlled appliance, and unintentional activation may occur if the wrong remote button is pressed, or due to timed event programming. For these reasons, do not use Z-Wave devices to control electric heaters or other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended or unintentional/automatic power-on. Z-Wave devices should never be used to supply power to or control the on/off status of medical or life support equipment.
