    Overview

The Jasco Z-Wave Certified In-Wall Smart Motion Dimmer (Model ZW3008 / item 26932) is a wireless lighting control switch that combines an in-wall dimmer with a built-in motion sensor. It can operate in Occupancy mode (fully automatic), Vacancy mode (manual-on, auto-off), or Manual mode, and integrates with any Z-Wave certified controller.

    Key Features

    • Turn ON/OFF and adjust dim levels manually or remotely via a Z-Wave controller
    • May be used in single-pole installations or with up to two Jasco Add-on switches in 3-way or 4-way wiring configurations
    • Compatible with all incandescent and most dimmable CFL/LED bulbs
    • Standard decorative-size wallplate for single-gang installs (wallplate not included)
    • Advanced configuration options via any Z-Wave controller supporting the Z-Wave Configuration command class

    Default Settings

    • Occupancy mode (default): Light turns on automatically when motion is detected, and off automatically when no motion is detected for 20 seconds followed by a 5-minute time-out
    • Light-sensing mode: disabled by default — motion always turns on the light
    • Motion sensitivity: medium by default

    Device Components

    • A. Ground (Green/Bare)
    • B. Load (Black)
    • C. Line (Black)
    • D. Traveler (Red/Other) — 3-way/4-way installs only
    • E. Neutral (White)
    • F. Top Button — press & release to turn dimmer on; press & hold to increase brightness
    • G. Bottom Button — press & release to turn dimmer off; press & hold to dim
    • H. Configuration Button — changes operation mode of the switch
    • I. Motion Sensor
    • J. Blue LED (behind cover) — indicates programming confirmation
    • K. Air Gap Switch — pull out to disconnect power; push in for normal operation

    Wiring Warning

WARNING — SHOCK HAZARD. Turn OFF power to the branch circuit for the dimmer and lighting fixture at the service panel before making any wiring connections. This device is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.

    Single-Switch Installation

    1. Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box, and verify power is OFF before continuing.
    2. Remove the wallplate, then remove the switch mounting screws and carefully remove the existing switch from the box without disconnecting the wires.
    3. Match the up-to-five screw terminals on the dimmer (GROUND, LOAD, LINE/Hot, TRAVELER, NEUTRAL) to the wires connected to the existing switch, labeling wires as you disconnect them.
    4. Connect the green/bare copper ground wire to the GROUND terminal.
    5. Connect the black wire going to the fixture to the terminal marked LOAD.
    6. Connect the black wire coming from the electrical service panel (Hot) to the terminal marked LINE.
    7. Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal (use a jumper wire if needed).
    8. The traveler terminal is only used for 3-way/4-way wiring — leave it insulated if installing in a 2-way system (one switch, one load).
    9. Insert the dimmer into the switch box carefully, avoiding pinching or crushing wires, and secure with the supplied screws. Mount the wallplate.
    10. Reapply power at the fuse box or circuit breaker and test the system.

For 3-way/4-way multi-switch installations, use the Jasco Add-on Switch (refer to its manual) — do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until the Add-on switches are correctly installed. Connecting the traveler terminal to a standard, non-Jasco switch will cause damage or improper function.

    Wiring Requirements

    • Rated for and intended to be used with copper wire only
    • Use 14 AWG or larger wire suitable for at least 80°C for LINE, LOAD, NEUTRAL, GROUND, and TRAVELER connections
    • For screw terminals: strip insulation 1" (25mm). For the enclosure's holes: strip insulation 5/8" (16mm)
    • UL-specified tightening torque for the screws: 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm)
    • In multiple-gang boxes it may be necessary to break off scored tabs on the front yoke, which affects the dimmer's electrical rating — see specifications

    Basic Operation

Mode Light turns ON when Light turns OFF when
Occupancy (default) Automatically, on motion Automatically, after motion stops
Vacancy Press & release top button Automatically, after motion stops
Manual Press & release top button Press & release bottom button

Adjust dim level: Press and hold the top button to increase brightness; press and hold the bottom button to decrease brightness.

Time-out duration (amount of time light stays on after motion stops) — set by holding the configuration button until the LED flashes the matching count: 5 sec, 1 min, 5 min (default), 15 min, or 30 min.

Motion sensitivity can be set to High, Medium (default), or Low via the configuration button.

    Adding to a Z-Wave Network

    1. Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to add the smart dimmer to the network.
    2. Once the controller is ready to add your device, press and release the top or bottom button on the smart dimmer to include it in the network.

To remove/reset: put the controller into remove mode, then press and release the top button on the dimmer to remove it from the network. To return to factory defaults, press and release the top button ten times within 5 seconds — the LED will flash 3 times quickly to confirm.

    Changing Button Color

Optional: to match your wallplate or decor. Pinch both tabs down to release the button, lift it off, then insert the new button (tabs near the motion sensor first, then the opposite side). Additional button colors (black, brown, ivory) are available at ezzwave.com.

    Interoperability

This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor to increase network reliability. Supports the Association Command Class (3 groups): Group 1 supports Lifeline/Multi Level Report; Groups 2 and 3 support Basic Set, controlled by the On/Off button with the local load. Each group supports 5 total nodes.
