Jasco 14314 (Model ZW4002) — Z-Wave In-Wall Smart Fan Control

Installation and use manual for the Jasco ZW4002 (Cat. No. 14314) Z-Wave Certified In-Wall Smart Fan Control switch — controls fan speed wirelessly via Z-Wave, manually via the rocker, or remotely via a Z-Wave controller.

Overview

• Turns fan ON/OFF and adjusts fan speed (LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH) manually or remotely via Z-Wave
• Can be included in multiple Groups and Scenes
• Single pole installation, or with up to two Jasco Add-on switches in 3-way or 4-way configurations
• Interchangeable paddle switch (white & light almond included)
• Standard decorative-size wall plate (single gang; plate not included)
• Blue LED indicates switch location in the dark
• Screw terminal installation — Line (Hot), Load, Neutral, and Ground; Traveler wire required for 3-way/4-way

Important Load Restrictions

• Controls FAN MOTOR ONLY — for use only with split capacitor or shaded pole ceiling fan motors
• No more than two identical fans per switch
• Total load must not exceed 1.5A resistive
• If the fan has an integrated light, a separate light switch must be installed to control the lighting load directly

Safety Warning

SHOCK HAZARD: Turn OFF power to the branch circuit for the switch and fixture at the service panel. All wiring connections must be made with the power OFF. This device must be installed in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). If unsure, consult a qualified electrician. Only copper wire is supported — use 14 AWG or larger wire suitable for at least 80°C.

Wiring Terminals

Installation Steps (Single-Switch Wiring)

1. Shut off power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box. Verify power is OFF before continuing.
2. Remove the wall plate
3. Remove the switch mounting screws
4. Carefully remove the existing switch from the box — do NOT disconnect the wires yet
5. Note the existing switch's screw terminal labels before disconnecting
6. Disconnect the wires from the existing switch, labeling them by their previous terminal connection
7. Connect the green/bare copper ground wire to the GROUND terminal
8. Connect the black wire that goes to the light/fan to the terminal marked LOAD
9. Connect the black wire from the service panel (Hot) to the terminal marked LINE
10. Connect the white wire to the neutral terminal (use the included jumper wire if needed)
11. Insert the Fan Control into the switch box carefully, avoiding pinching or crushing wires
12. Secure the Fan Control to the box using the supplied screws
13. Mount the wall plate
14. Reapply power at the fuse box/breaker and test the system

For 3-way installations, refer to the separate Jasco Add-on Switch manual — do not connect the Traveler wire to a standard, non-Jasco switch (this will cause damage or improper function).

Basic Manual Operation

Before starting, set the fan to "HIGH" using its pull chain.

• Turn ON: Press and release the top of the rocker (fan returns to its last speed setting; default is HIGH)
• Turn OFF: Press and release the bottom of the rocker
• Increase speed: Press and hold the upper rocker
• Decrease speed: Press and hold the lower rocker

The LED confirms fan speed via flash pattern:

• LOW — blinks every 2 seconds for 10 seconds
• MEDIUM — blinks every second for 10 seconds
• HIGH — blinks every half second for 10 seconds

Z-Wave Network Setup

Adding the Device

1. Follow your Z-Wave controller's instructions to include a device
2. Once the controller is ready to include, press and release the top or bottom of the switch rocker
3. Once confirmed included, refresh the Z-Wave network to optimize performance

Excluding / Resetting

• Exclude: Put your controller in exclude mode, then press and release the top or bottom of the rocker
• Factory reset: Quickly press ON (top) three times, then immediately press OFF (bottom) three times. The LED flashes ON/OFF 5 times when successful. (Only use this if the network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.)

This device supports Lifeline (association group 1), 1 node — the Z-Wave controller sets this automatically after inclusion. Advanced configurations (adjustable via the Z-Wave Configuration command class) are documented at www.jascoproducts.com/z-waveconfig.

Changing the Paddle Color

1. Lift the Air Gap tab at the base of the paddle
2. Push side tabs in on one side, then the other, to release the paddle; lift the cover up and off
3. Put the new paddle onto the Fan Control by inserting the air gap and side tabs, snapping securely into place
