    Installation and Operation Manual for the Inovonics EN1941XS/EE1941XS One-Way Serial RF Module — an OEM daughter board that adds EchoStream wireless mesh network transmission to a user's remote application controller (RAC) via a serial (UART) connection.

    Overview

    EchoStream RF modules interface with an electronic remote application controller (RAC). The RAC handles application-specific functionality and uses the RF module to send data over the wireless network. The module communicates wirelessly with the network coordinator, and with the RAC via a serial connection — letting any user-specific application be assimilated into an EchoStream system. The E*1941XS uses a UART logic-level serial connection and is intended for use as a daughter board interfacing directly with the RAC.

    The E*1941XS is a one-way serial data transmitter: serial data sent from the RAC is formatted by the module and transmitted as an RF message to the network coordinator. There are two models:

    • EN1941XS — 900 MHz, for North America, New Zealand, and Australia.
    • EE1941XS — 868 MHz, for Europe.

    Frequency Band Selection (EN1941XS only)

    • Jumper on the left two pins → 915–928 MHz (Australia)
    • Jumper on the right two pins → 921–928 MHz (New Zealand)
    • No jumper → 902–928 MHz (North America)

    ES Selection Pins (EE1941XS only)

    Place a jumper on the ES selection pins to enable compatibility with ES products; remove it if no ES products are in the system.

    Module Dimensions

    Header pin spacing (pitch): 2.54mm. Approximate board length: 2.525"; width: 0.5". Refer to the manufacturer's diagram for exact hole placement (mounting hole center ~0.385" from first pin, board stabilization hole ~1.3" from reference).

    Installation Requirements

    • Connect the RF module only at the eight-pin header or eight-pin plated through-holes.
    • Route all cables/wires away from the component side of the module.
    • Do not tamper with the integrated antenna — no alternate antenna connection is provided.
    • The application module must not include an integrated secondary co-located radio module.
    • Position the antenna facing away from, or isolated from, your device's ground plane.
    • Isolate RF-sensitive components (e.g. high-gain circuits) from the antenna to prevent interference.
    • Do not mount on metal surfaces or inside metal enclosures, and avoid locations where sheet metal ductwork or wire mesh screens could block transmission.
    • Ensure the antenna is unobstructed by the end-user's PCB, batteries, or other conductive material — keep a clear transmit region in front of and behind the antenna.

    Module Requirements

    Timing

    Data is sent at a default rate of 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, least significant bit first.

    Power

    The module has an on-board voltage regulator. Connect to an external power supply of 2.4–5.5 VDC; voltage must stay at 2.4V or above and supply 100mA during the transmit cycle.

    Current Draw

    • EN1941XS: assuming check-in every 3 minutes and one alarm/day on average, average current draw is 32µA; peak transmit current draw is <100mA. One alarm/restore cycle at max payload adds ~23mA to average current.
    • EE1941XS: assuming check-in every 12 minutes and one alarm/day on average, average current draw is 15µA; peak transmit current draw is <50mA. One alarm/restore cycle at max payload adds ~12mA to average current.

    Low Battery Condition

    Power supply voltage is measured every 3.5 hours; at 2.4V, a serial low-battery message is sent.

    Serial I/O (UART Logic Levels)

    • Input levels must not exceed 3.3V; output limited to 3.3V max.
    • Data-in Vih (min high input): 0.75×Vcc; Vil (max low input): 0.25×Vcc
    • Data-out Voh (min high output): Vcc − 0.25V at Ioh −1.5mA, or Vcc − 0.6V at Ioh −6mA
    • Data-out Vol (max low output): 0.25V at Iol 1.5mA, or 0.6V at Iol 6mA

    Compliance Requirements

    FCC Requirements (EN1941XS)

    The EN1941XS has received a Limited Modular Grant, requiring Inovonics to retain control of the final installation for FCC/IC compliance. The integrator must test the final installation for unintentional-emissions compliance, and submit a compliance review form (included at the end of this manual) and documentation — and, if requested, a functional product sample — to Inovonics before marketing the product. If Inovonics testing isn't possible, the integrator must self-test and submit proof of compliance with FCC Part 15 and Industry Canada RSS-210.

    The integrator must properly label the final product, including a statement referencing the module and its FCC/IC numbers, e.g.: "Contains One-Way Serial RF Module FCC ID: HCQ3B6OT9OEM; IC ID: 2309A-OT9OEM".

    Television and Radio Interference

    Tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits under FCC Part 15, providing reasonable protection against interference in residential installations. If interference to radio/TV reception occurs, try reorienting/relocating the receiving antenna, increasing separation between the equipment and receiver, connecting to a different outlet/circuit, or consulting a technician.

    FCC Part 15 / Industry Canada Compliance Statement

    This device complies with FCC Part 15 and Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standards. Operation is subject to two conditions: (1) the device may not cause interference, and (2) it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

    CE Label Requirements (EE1941XS)

    Inovonics has received ETSI approval to market the module, and it is manufactured RoHS-compliant. The integrator is responsible for properly labeling the final product, including the CE logo.

    Warranty

    Note: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

    Inovonics Wireless Corporation warrants EchoStream Products to conform to specifications and be free of defects in materials/workmanship under normal use for 36 months from the date of manufacture. Inovonics will repair or replace, at its option, any warranted defective part, but is not responsible for dismantling/reinstallation charges. Warranty claims must go through an authorized distributor, who is issued an RMA number by Inovonics. The warranty is void for improper installation, misuse, failure to follow instructions, alteration, accident, tampering, or repair by anyone other than Inovonics. This warranty is exclusive and in lieu of all other warranties; Inovonics is not liable for incidental, consequential, indirect, special, or exemplary damages. Inovonics is not liable for damage caused by third-party products, accessories, or attachments (including batteries) used with its Products.

    Compliance Review Form (for integrators)

    Integrators must submit a description of the final installation (with photographs as necessary) and an unintentional radiator test report to Inovonics for review, along with integrator contact information and a declaration of conformity to Inovonics' installation instructions. Inovonics reviews the submission and returns an approval status (pass, fail, samples required, compliance testing required, or compliance test report required).
