    Installation and reference sheet for the Nortek Security & Control HUSBZB-1 (HubZ) — a USB 2.0 full-speed, low-power Z-Wave and ZigBee adapter in a USB stick form factor. Plugs into a computer or similar host and appears as two serial ports.

    Overview

    HubZ requires an application from a third party to operate — it does not run standalone. When power is supplied through the USB port, a blue LED on the front illuminates; once the user application is running, the LED can display various status information.

    Z-Wave Operation

    HubZ is an independently controlled Z-Wave static controller that requires a third-party application to operate. The application controls the following functions:

    • Inclusion — the process of adding a node into the Z-Wave network
    • Exclusion — the process of removing a node from the Z-Wave network
    • Replication — the process of copying network information from one controller to another

    HubZ can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network alongside Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters (regardless of vendor) to increase network reliability.

    ZigBee Operation

    HubZ is effectively a USB-to-UART bridge connected to a Silicon Labs EM3581 ZigBee module, providing ZigBee connectivity to a computer's USB port.

    Upgrade Ability

    HubZ supports firmware upgrades via the USB port.

    Important Radio Control Limitations

    • For U.S. installations only: radios must comply with FCC Part 15 rules and therefore have limited transmitter power and range.
    • A receiver cannot respond to more than one transmitted signal at a time, and may be blocked by radio signals near its operating frequency, regardless of code settings.
    • Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
    • Infrequently used radio links should be tested regularly to protect against undetected interference or fault.

    Warranty

    This Nortek Security & Control product is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for twelve (12) months. This warranty extends only to wholesale customers who buy direct from Nortek Security & Control or through its normal distribution channels — it does not warrant this product to consumers directly (consumers should inquire with their selling dealer about the dealer's warranty). There are no obligations or liabilities for consequential damages arising from use or performance of this product, or for loss of property, revenue, or profit, or cost of removal, installation, or reinstallation.
