    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation manual for the HomeSeer HS-WA100+ Wall Companion switch — a wired 3-way companion for the HS-WD100+ dimmer or HS-WS100+ wall switch.

    Overview

The HS-WA100+ is a wired companion switch used only to remotely control a HomeSeer HS-WD100+ wall dimmer or HS-WS100+ wall switch in a 3-way electrical circuit. It is not a stand-alone switch and cannot control an electrical load by itself. See HomeSeer.com/lighting for a complete list of features and applications.

WARNING — RISK OF FIRE | RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK | RISK OF BURNS: Do not use this switch to control anything that may present a hazard when controlled remotely or used in an unattended fashion. Do not use with medical or life support instruments.

    Installation

Tools required: medium standard and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters.

    1. Shut off power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box. Verify power is OFF before continuing.
    2. Remove the existing 3-way switch's wall plate and mounting screws. Carefully remove the existing switch from the electrical box, leaving the wires connected.
    3. This companion switch should only be connected to three wires:
      • NEUTRAL — White (often tied to other neutral wires; may require a jumper to connect with the HS-WA100+)
      • GROUND — Green or bare
      • TRAVELER — Red/other (only used in 3-way circuits)
    4. Disconnect the wires from the existing switch and attach them to the HS-WA100+ using the screw terminal connectors on the back:
      1. Strip 16 mm (5/8") of insulation from each wire (all wires should be 14 AWG or larger, rated 80°C or higher).
      2. Loosen each screw terminal by rotating counter-clockwise a few turns until resistance is felt.
      3. Insert the stripped wire into one of the two holes near each screw terminal and tighten to secure. Tightening torque should be 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm); connections should be snug.
    5. Carefully install the wired switch back into the electrical box and reattach the trim plate.

Note: Up to (3) HS-WA100+ companions may be combined with (1) HS-WD100+ or (1) HS-WS100+ for 4-way or 5-way operation.

    Compatibility

The HS-WA100+ is specifically designed to work with the HS-WD100+ wall dimmer or HS-WS100+ wall switch in a 3-way circuit. It will not work with other brands of switches and cannot control a load by itself.

    Operation

The switch may only be operated locally (manually):

    • Tap the top of the paddle to power the load (works with HS-WD100+ or HS-WS100+).
    • Tap the bottom of the paddle to cut power to the load (works with HS-WD100+ or HS-WS100+).
    • Press & hold the top or bottom of the paddle to increase or decrease the dim level (works with HS-WD100+ only).

    Advanced Features

The HS-WA100+ can remotely activate advanced features of the HS-WD100+ dimmer and HS-WS100+ switch:

    Enhanced Event Triggers

    • Multi-tap triggering: tapping the top or bottom of the paddle once, twice, or three times in rapid succession can trigger HomeSeer events (note: a single tap also remotely controls the local load).
    • Press & hold: pressing and holding the top or bottom of the paddle for 2 seconds can trigger HomeSeer events (note: this will also dim the load if connected to an HS-WD100+).

    Instant Status

Status changes to HomeSeer switches are monitored in real time with HomeSeer systems.
