    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

The HomeSeer HomeTroller Zee S2 is a smart home controller with a built-in Z-Wave hardware interface. This Getting Started Guide covers initial hardware setup, web interface access, MyHomeSeer (MyHS) remote access, driver/plug-in installation, Z-Wave network setup, event automation, and recovery procedures.

    Step 1 — Initial Setup

    Hardware Installation

    1. Unpack the HomeTroller Zee, Ethernet cable, and AC power supply.
    2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the HomeTroller Zee and to a port on your internet router.
    3. Connect the AC power adapter to begin booting (about 45 seconds to 1 minute).

    Accessing the Web Interface

    1. Navigate to find.homeseer.com from any web-enabled device.
    2. Click "Search" — your HomeSeer system will appear at the bottom.
    3. Click the IP address hyperlink to access the web interface.

Set Your System Password: The password screen appears on first run. You must set a system password to prevent unauthorized access — choose one that's secure but memorable.

    Activate & Register Online

    1. From the web interface, go to TOOLS > Setup > General tab.
    2. Click "Register Online" in the License section and enter your license codes (found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit).

    Update & Set Time Zone

    1. From TOOLS > Setup > General tab, click the update button if an update is available; the unit reboots automatically once installed.
    2. Scroll to the "Location" area, find Time Zone, and set it to your local zone (e.g., US – America/New York).

    Optional Wi-Fi Adapter

    1. Connect the Wi-Fi adapter with the Ethernet cable still attached.
    2. Go to the Network Tab > Wi-Fi Settings, enter your SSID (case-sensitive) and password, choose encryption type, and keep "Use DHCP" checked.
    3. Go to Tools > System > Shutdown System, unplug power and Ethernet, then reconnect power to boot over Wi-Fi.
    4. Access find.homeseer.com again to confirm Wi-Fi connectivity.

Step 2 — Setting Up Remote Access (MyHS)

MyHomeSeer Remote is a free cloud service for accessing your HomeTroller Zee from anywhere via browser or the HSTouch mobile app.

    1. Navigate to myhs.homeseer.com/Register.
    2. Enter your License ID and License Password (found on the bottom sticker of your unit).
    3. Click Register, then check your email and click the verification link.

Your HomeTroller can now be accessed any time at myhs.homeseer.com.

    HSTouch Mobile App with MyHS

Android: Install HSTouch from Google Play → Settings > MyHomeSeer → enter MyHS credentials → relaunch and choose MyHomeSeer.
iOS: Install HSTouch from the App Store → open Apple Settings > HSTouch settings → enter MyHS credentials in MyHomeSeer server settings → relaunch and choose MyHomeSeer.

    Step 3 — Installing Drivers (Plug-ins)

The HomeTroller Zee S2 has a built-in Z-Wave hardware interface; other technologies require external hardware plus a software plug-in.

    1. Open the Plug-ins menu > Manage.
    2. Click the yellow circle before "Additional Interfaces" to view plug-in categories, then the category circle to browse available plug-ins.
    3. Check the box for the desired plug-in and click "Download and Install."
    4. Once installed, the plug-in appears under "Installed Plug-ins."
    5. Enable the plug-in and configure the correct COM port or IP address (refer to the specific hardware interface manual).

    Step 4 — Z-Wave Network Setup

    Adding Devices

    1. Navigate to PLUG-INS > Z-Wave > Controller Management.
    2. Expand your Z-Wave Controller section, open Actions, and choose "Add/Include a Node."
    3. Click Start — the HomeTroller enters inclusion mode.
    4. Activate the network button/sequence on the Z-Wave device; watch for "Finished with Replication process" in the log window, then click Close. The device is now included and controllable.

    Removing (Resetting) Devices

    1. Navigate to the same Controller Management page.
    2. Choose "Remove/Exclude a Node" from Actions and click Start.
    3. Activate the device's network button and watch for the completion acknowledgement in the log window.

Note: Add = Include, Remove = Exclude, Copy = Replicate.

    Step 5 — Editing & Controlling Z-Wave Devices

From VIEW > Device Management, click "Show All" to list devices. Click a device's Name hyperlink to edit its Configuration (name/location) or Z-Wave tab (parameters/settings). Use the Control column's buttons/sliders to test and operate devices directly.

Step 6 — Creating Automation Events

An event consists of a trigger and one or more actions (e.g., Trigger = sunset, Action = turn lights on):

    1. Navigate to VIEW > Events.
    2. Rename the event group (e.g., "Lighting") and create a new event (e.g., "Lights on at Sunset").
    3. In the Trigger section, choose "The Time Is..." → "The Time is Sunset."
    4. In the Actions section, choose "Control a Device," select the device and the on/off action.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Cause Solution
Unit won't power on AC adapter unplugged/bad, power cable bad Plug in adapter; contact HomeSeer if still failing
Powers on but won't boot USB hardware conflict, software/hardware failure Detach USB device and reboot; contact HomeSeer
Z-Wave devices won't include Device previously on another network; device/Z-Stick failure Use Exclude to reset the device, then retry; replace device or contact HomeSeer
HSDiscover can't locate device Unit not powered/booted/connected to LAN Power on, wait 2 minutes, connect to router and reboot
Door locks / sensors won't include or respond Inclusion process incomplete Exclude and repeat the "Including Battery Powered Devices" procedure
Wi-Fi not connecting Incorrect SSID/password Contact HomeSeer

    HS3 Recovery Procedure

Use this if your HomeTroller becomes unresponsive or inaccessible: navigate to the unit's IP address followed by :911 (e.g. http://192.168.2.50:911). Options include resetting a forgotten password or crashed plug-in (Option 1), reverting/updating firmware (Option 2), updating the Recovery Utility, or returning to find.homeseer.com.

    System Restore Procedure

Use only after 911 recovery fails and after contacting HomeSeer support — this wipes existing data. Back up your HS3 configuration via Tools > Setup first.

    1. Plug a monitor and keyboard into your Zee.
    2. Restart and hold Shift when prompted for recovery mode.
    3. Select the Zee S2 Factory Image and click Install (top left).
    4. Click OK when finished; the Zee will reboot.
