Haven Sliding Glass Door Kit — Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the Haven Sliding Glass Door Kit — used to mount a HavenLock smart floor lock (Connect, Connect Z, or Mech) to internally framed left- or right-hand sliding glass doors. Estimated install time: 10 minutes. Difficulty: Medium.

Kit Contents & Compatibility

• One bracket (Option A or Option B — only one is included, matched to your door)
• 2 self-tapping screws, #8, ¾" hex head
• 1 piece of double-sided VHB tape

Important: This kit only works on internally framed sliding glass doors — where the sliding panel sits inside the house in front of the static glass window. Externally framed doors are not compatible.

Tools Needed

• 1/8" drill bit for bracket pilot holes (if necessary)
• Drill driver with ¼" drive socket and #2 Phillips head bit
• Pencil or marker

The included self-tapping screws are strong enough for most door materials, but some materials may require a pilot hole. Refer to install.havenlock.com for a guided drill-bit selection tool — concrete subfloors need a masonry bit and concrete screws (not included).

Step 1: Determine Lock and Bracket Position

• Position the lock in the middle of the sliding section when the door is fully closed.
• Remove any toe molding in front of the door frame if present — required for proper operation.
• Mark the left and right edges of the lock with a pencil for reference during install.

Step 2: Position the Bracket

• Mount the bracket vertically on the sliding door frame so it catches the Havenlock gate when locked (up) and clears it when unlocked (down).
• Push the Havenlock as close to the frame as possible; you may need more than one riser depending on frame ledge height.
• Use the orange spacer card (included with the lock) as a spacing guide between the locking gate and bracket edge.
• Account for sill frames that aren't level — placing two pennies or the orange spacer under the screw holes helps.

Caution: Keep the locking gate close to the bracket edge to avoid a large contact gap — but don't let the bracket touch the gate, which can prevent it from raising during activation.

Caution: Sliding glass door glass typically sits ¼–½ inch into the frame. Do not drill close to the glass — you risk damaging the frame or cracking the glass.

Step 3: Install the Bracket

1. Recommended: secure with VHB tape AND the self-tapping screws for maximum strength. Construction adhesive is an alternative to screws if preferred.
2. Drill 1/8" pilot holes if needed for hard/metal sliders — don't drill through the far side of the frame, and double-check you're not drilling into the glass or glass frame.
3. Apply the included VHB tape to the back of the bracket, trimming as needed so it doesn't cover the screw holes.
4. Align the bracket with your pencil marks and press it onto the door.
5. Screw the bracket into the frame using a ¼" socket driver — do not overtighten, which can strip the door material.

Warning: Screwing too close to the glass frame can crack and shatter the glass, risking injury. Use tape/adhesive attachment options instead if unsure. HavenLock is not responsible for damage to the door, floor, or person resulting from installation.

Note: Do not test bracket strength immediately — VHB tape takes about 72 hours to fully cure.

Step 4: Install the Lock

• Ensure the door is closed and locked with the handle lock for the best bracket fit.
• Line up the lock at your marked position; verify an orange-spacer-width gap between the locking gate and bracket edge when the gate is up.
• Remove the gate cover, mark drill holes, and follow the automated guide at install.havenlock.com to secure the lock to the floor. Only 2 screws are required (the two outer holes) — install the screw closest to the bracket first.
• Concrete subfloors require a masonry bit and concrete screws (not included, wood screws only are provided).

Caution: Do not overtighten screws — this can strip the hole and cause the lock to bind. Use a low-torque drill setting with a #2 Phillips bit.

Step 5: Post-Installation

• Reattach the gate cover using a small screwdriver or your finger; its screws are for retention only, not structural strength.
• For Haven Connect: pair via install.havenlock.com (phone app, keyfob, Haven Hub). For Haven Connect Z (Z-Wave): pair via your Z-Wave controller. Haven Mech requires no pairing.
• You can lightly test lock/bracket contact after installation — the bracket should catch with little to no door rocking.

Caution: Do not full-strength test the lock until the VHB tape/adhesive has cured (approx. 48–72 hours) — early stress testing can pull the bracket loose and damage the door.
