HAI Omni IIe Home Automation & Security Controller — Owner's Manual

Full Owner's Manual for the HAI (Home Automation, Inc.) Omni IIe home automation and security controller, covering console operation, security system operation, lighting/appliance control, temperature control, telephone access, PC Access, and system setup. Includes the SIA CP-01 Control Panel Standard features for false alarm reduction.

UL Listing

The 20A00-50, -51, and -52 Omni IIe controllers/consoles are UL Listed for UL 985 (Household Fire Warning) and UL 1023 (Household Burglar Alarm). The 20A00-51 controller is additionally listed for UL 365 (Police Station Connected Burglar Alarm), UL 609 (Local Burglar Alarm), and UL 1610 (Central Station Burglar Alarm). In a UL Listed installation, failure to operate/program the system as described is a Listing Mark violation.

Console Overview

Shortcut keys: OFF (disarm, reset alarms, silence sirens), DAY (arm perimeter only, entry delay active), NIGHT (arm doors/windows/non-sleeping-area motions, no entry delay), AWAY (arm everything, exit + entry delay). The Down/Up Arrow keys scroll menus/lists. The Console LED is red when armed, green when disarmed, and flashes when a message is waiting. The Keypad doubles as menu-selection keys from the top-level display. The * key cancels/returns to the previous menu; the # key confirms a selection or opens the Main Menu.

Normal top-level display shows day/date/time and "SYSTEM OK" (or the name of any zone that's not ready, in trouble, or bypassed). The system times out and returns to the top-level display after 3 minutes of inactivity.

Main Menu

1=CONTROL, 2=SECURITY, 3=BUTTON, 4=ALL, 5=TEMP, 6=STATUS, 7=EVENTS, 8=MESSAGE, 9=SETUP. Enter the main menu by pressing #, or jump directly by number.

Console beeper: Press 0 from the top-level display to toggle it OFF/ON locally. Error beeps = 3 beeps for an invalid key. Trouble beeps = continuous 2/second until acknowledged with *. Confirmation beep = single beep after a successful action.

Areas

Installers can split the system into up to 2 independent security areas (e.g., house + guesthouse/workshop), each with its own zones, units, macros, messages, and thermostats, and its own console. A Master code works in any area; area-limited codes only work in their assigned area(s). Use #=GOTO from the Security menu to temporarily operate another area's console remotely.

Maintenance

Clean consoles with a mild detergent and soft cloth. Replace the controller's rechargeable battery (12V, 7Ah sealed lead-acid) every 3 years, or if "BATTERY LOW TROUBLE NOW" persists. When replacing: disconnect and tape the red (+) wire first, then the black (−) wire; reverse the process to install the new battery, being careful of polarity.

Security System Operation

Disarming

Press OFF, then enter your 4-digit code (each digit echoes as "X"). A single beep and green LED confirm success; an invalid code triggers 3 beeps and "*** INVALID CODE ***". Panic, tamper, fire zones, and console emergency buttons are always armed regardless of system state.

Arming Modes

Quick Arm: Press a shortcut key (DAY/NIGHT/AWAY) twice in a row to arm without entering a code — disabled by default, enable under Set Up Arming.

Exit Time Restart: If enabled, re-opening the same entry-exit zone within the original exit delay restarts the delay (once per arming cycle). Unvacated Premises: if enabled and no exit zone was ever violated during the exit delay, the system auto-arms to Day mode instead of Away/Vacation.

Exit Error: If an entry-exit zone is still "Not Ready" when the exit delay expires, sounders activate, the console prompts "DISARM SYSTEM – PRESS OFF THEN CODE," and the system waits the Entry Delay before treating it as a full alarm (reported to the central station with an Exit Error code). Incompatible with Auto-Bypass, which overrides it if enabled.

Bypassing & Restoring Zones

From Security menu, press 8=BYPASS, enter the zone number + #, then your code. A bypassed zone stays bypassed until restored (9=RESTORE, or 0 to restore all). Fire zone bypass causes continuous beeping until restored. Auto-Bypass automatically bypasses a zone that's open when the exit delay ends (restored once secured or on next arm/disarm) — disabled on UL Listed installations.

Alarm Behavior

Burglar Alarm: Sounder activates continuously; display shows "BURGLAR ALARM! – ZONE NAME TRIPPED"; the When Alarm macro runs; after the Outside Siren Delay (0-60 sec) the siren activates; after the Dial Out Delay (15-45 sec, default communicator delay 30 sec) the system dials out (central station and/or voice dial-out, with voice delayed 5 min if both are used).

Fire Alarm: Same sequence but display reads "FIRE ALARM!" and the sounder pulses in a 3-pulse temporal pattern; takes priority over burglar (but not over an active gas alarm).

Gas Alarm: Display reads "GAS ALARM!"; sounder pulses on-off-on then an extended off; takes priority over burglar (but not over an active fire alarm).

Emergency Keys (press two console keys simultaneously for ~1 sec, always armed): 1+3 = Police Emergency (immediate, no siren delay); 4+6 = Fire Emergency (temporal pattern, silence with *); 7+9 = Auxiliary Emergency (console beeps until reset).

Duress Code: Disarm using a separate Duress code to trigger a fully silent dial-out (no sirens/lights/beeps) — use this if forced to disarm under duress.

Alarm Reset: Sirens auto-shut-off and the system resets after the configured 6-30 minute window; any zone still not-ready is auto-bypassed. Alarm Cancel: disarming after Dial Out Delay but within the reset window sends a "cancel" code to the central station and shows "ALARM CANCEL"; disarming before Dial Out Delay expires shows "ALARM ABORTED" with nothing reported.

Trouble Indications

Press * to acknowledge/silence trouble beeps (2/second). "TRBL NOW" = currently active; "HAD TRBL" = occurred and self-corrected.

User Codes

Up to 16 four-digit codes (0001-9999). Master = full access to all areas/times (User code 1 is always Master). Manager = arm/disarm assigned areas during assigned times, plus High Security mode functions and remote telephone access. User = arm/disarm assigned areas during assigned times only.

Testing Your System (Recommended Weekly)

1. Notify your Central Station before testing. Press 1+3 to test the siren; OFF + code to cancel.
2. Have a partner open/close each door and window while watching the console for "NOT RDY" then "SYSTEM OK."
3. Walk in front of motion detectors and confirm console response.
4. Test smoke detectors per manufacturer instructions; be ready to silence the alarm.
5. Press 6 then 4 to check the battery reading (should read over 200).
6. From an inside phone press # then 8, then 3 — the Omni IIe should speak your address, confirming dialer/telephone systems work.
7. To test central station monitoring, call them first, trigger the alarm, wait through the Dial Out Delay, then turn it off; confirm they received the alarm and cancel signal, then notify them the test is complete.

Control (Lighting & Appliances)

The Omni IIe controls lighting/appliances via UPB switches/modules/keypads, Z-Wave (e.g., Leviton Vizia RF), CentraLite (LiteJet/Elegance), Lutron RadioRA, ALC modules, and X-10 compatible modules, plus HAI Communicating Thermostats and Programmable Energy Saver Modules (PESMs) for HVAC, and direct relay outputs for sprinklers, heating, etc.

Capacity: 64 UPB devices (up to 8 rooms of HLC lighting), 64 Z-Wave devices, 64 CentraLite loads/relays, 64 RadioRA switches/dimmers, 62 ALC modules, 64 X-10 modules (4 house codes), 4 HAI thermostats, 8 PESMs/voltage outputs, and 56 internal programming "flags."

UPB is a two-way powerline communications protocol (coexists with X-10, intercoms, baby monitors) sent via a Powerline Interface Module (PIM); it supports on/off/bright/dim/level commands, status feedback, keypad scene control, and macro-triggering Link commands.

HAI Lighting Control (HLC) organizes UPB devices into "rooms" of 8 consecutive unit numbers (Room 1 = Units 1-8, Room 2 = 9-16, etc.), up to 8 rooms / 64 devices. Each room can include up to 7 wall switches/dimmers/modules plus one or more Room Controllers (6-button: on/off/bright/dim/4 scenes A-D) and House Controllers (control up to 8 rooms, or serve as general 8-button keypads). The first unit number in each room is reserved for room-level control and should be named for the room (e.g., "Kitchen").

Telephone Control

Access the system from in-house phones (pick up and press #) or remote phones (dial in, enter your code when prompted). If Phone Access Denied appears, you may be locked out remotely — see your installer.

Phone Main Menu: 1=Control, 2=Security (with #=GOTO Area), 3=Button, 4=All, 5=Temperature, 6=Status, 7=Events, 8=Phone, 9=Good-Bye.

Panic Button over the Phone: Press ###### (six pound signs) to trigger a panic alarm remotely.

Voice Dialer: On alarm, the Omni IIe calls the numbers in your Dial Order and speaks an emergency message identifying the alarm type, address, and instructs the called party to enter your code (given in advance) to stop further calls, or press 9 to hang up. If the system says "this is a silent alarm," the called party should call police immediately.

PC Access & Networking

The Omni IIe includes a built-in Ethernet port for LAN/Internet connectivity to HAI's PC Access software (see the separate 1106W PC Access manual for the software itself). Configuration requires the controller's IP address, port number, and encryption key (set under Setup > Miscellaneous). Dynamic DNS can be used if your public IP address changes periodically.

Setup Overview (Installer/Advanced)

Setup Mode (menu 9) covers: Set Up Codes (authority level, access areas, duress code), Set Up Time, Advanced Control Programming (ACP) for creating/editing/deleting event-driven programs (When/Command/Condition structure supporting control, security, button, temperature, message, and energy-cost actions), Set Up Dial (telephone access, rings before answer, dial-out numbers 1-8 and dial order), Set Up Arming (entry/exit delay, exit time restart, unvacated premises, chimes, quick arm, auto-bypass, beep on trouble), Set Up Miscellaneous (high security mode, freeze alarm, flash for alarm, house code formats, time clocks, latitude/longitude/time zone, daylight savings, controller IP/port/encryption key), and Set Up Names/Voice/Address.

Audio Control

Change audio source and zone from the console, configure source/zone names, and program HAI Hi-Fi key-press commands via ACP for whole-house audio integration.

Regulatory & Safety

Complies with FCC Part 15 (registered terminal equipment for telephone line connection) and Canadian Industry Canada requirements. If your Omni IIe is suspected of causing phone line trouble, disconnect the PHONE LINE cable from both the processor board and the RJ31X jack inside the controller enclosure.

This alarm system is not a guarantee against burglary, fire, or other emergencies — it is subject to compromise or failure for many reasons (power loss, phone line failure, sensor limitations, wireless signal blockage, human response time, etc.). Test the system weekly per the procedure above. Follow your fire escape plan and smoke/gas detector manufacturer instructions.
