  • HAI Model 75A00-2 Access Control Reader — Installation Manual

    September 08, 2026 3 min read

Installation instructions and wiring diagrams for the HAI Model 75A00-2 proximity card Access Control Reader for HAI Home Control Systems.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the HAI Model 75A00-2 Access Control Reader — a 125 KHz high security, digitally encrypted, 26-bit proximity card reader that connects to a serial port on an HAI Home Control System for access control.

    Overview

Multiple 75A00-2 readers may be multi-dropped on a single serial interface configured for RS-485 communications. The reader incorporates three inputs — one for an exit push button and two general purpose inputs — plus one output for an electric door strike or magnetic lock.

    Planning: Wiring Distance

The 75A00-2 requires 4 wires for operation (2 for power, 2 for communications). Maximum cable distance between the reader and the connected 12V Power Supply (or HAI 83A00 Power Hub) depends on the current draw of the connected door lock device and the wire gauge/type used. Do not exceed these maximum cable lengths:

    Wire Gauge / Type 75A00-2 Only (130mA max) + 79A00-1 Strike (580mA max) + Door Lock 800mA (930mA max) + Door Lock 1A (1.13A max)
    24 AWG solid, 1 conductor pair 233 ft 58 ft 37 ft 30 ft
    24 AWG solid, 2 conductor pairs 466 ft 117 ft 74 ft 61 ft
    22 AWG solid, 1 conductor pair 413 ft 103 ft 65 ft 54 ft
    18 AWG solid, 1 conductor pair 1000 ft 261 ft 165 ft 136 ft
    16 AWG solid, 1 conductor pair 1000 ft 415 ft 262 ft 217 ft

Note: If cable with multiple conductors is used (such as Cat-5), multiple conductors can be connected together to achieve greater distance.

    Installation Steps

    1. Remove the cover from the 75A00-2 by gently prying the top and bottom of the cover with a small blade screwdriver.
    2. Drill a ½" hole in the center of the mounting location (mullion or wall mount).
    3. Insert the connection cable through the hole; mark the mounting hole locations (top-right and bottom-left).
    4. Make connections to the 75A00-2 as shown in the wiring diagrams below.
    5. Secure the 75A00-2 to the mounting surface with the supplied mounting hardware.
    6. Install the cover by gently pushing it onto the reader until it snaps in place.
    7. Configure the serial interface on the HAI controller for RS-485 communications by moving the corresponding interface jumper (JP1–JP5) to the "485" position.

    Wiring Connections

The 75A00-2 connects via a 4-position modular connector (gray wire on top, tab up):

    Wire Color Connection
    Red Power (+12VDC)
    Black Power Ground (GND)
    Gray RS-485 (A)
    Orange RS-485 (B)
    White Door Lock Output
    Green Exit Button Input
    Blue Contact Input #1
    Yellow Contact Input #2
    Purple / Brown Not Used

Additional readers connect in parallel on the 4-position modular connector. When a serial interface is configured for access control, the corresponding interface jumper (JP1–JP5) must be in the "485" position — for example, JP2 must be set to "485" when serial interface 2 (J2) is used for access control.

The reader can be wired directly to a 12VDC power supply (with 24VAC transformer input) or to an HAI Model 83A00 12VDC Power Hub connected to the HAI controller — both configurations use the same wire-color connections listed above.
