Technical sheet for the HAI C3 Cellular Communications Center (70A00-1) — a GSM communicator providing primary or backup phone service and security panel reporting over cellular.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Product technical sheet for the HAI C3 Cellular Communications Center (HAI part 70A00-1) — a GSM cellular communicator that lets existing landline telephones and security panels operate over the cellular network when a landline is unavailable or absent.

    Overview

The C3 Cellular Communications Center is a wireless cellular communicator that enables phone calls over the GSM cellular network using the existing telephones already installed in a home. It can serve as the primary phone service where no landline exists, or as an automatic backup that switches to cellular when the landline goes down. It also lets any existing security panel report alarm conditions over the GSM network when the landline is unavailable.

    Key Features

    • Quad-band GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
    • Functions as either primary or backup phone service
    • Continuously monitors the landline and automatically switches to cellular when the landline goes down
    • Full telephone line (PSTN) simulation for connected phones and equipment
    • Usable in homes/locations where no landline is present at all
    • When tied to a security system, reports alarm events to the central monitoring station over cellular
    • Supports prepaid GSM SIM cards
    • Built-in battery charger automatically maintains the backup battery

    How It Works

    Primary Cellular Service (No Landline)

The C3 emulates a landline signal to connected phones and the security panel, routing all calls over the cellular network — no landline service is required at all.

    Backup Cellular Service (Landline Present)

The C3 continuously checks the status of the existing PSTN telephone line. If the landline is available, connected phones hear a normal dial tone and calls route over the landline as usual. If the landline goes down, phones hear a different tone indicating cellular mode, and the call routes over the GSM network automatically. Even with a working landline, a user can force a call over cellular by pressing the * key when picking up the phone (before dialing) — this switches the line to GSM mode for that call.

Incoming calls to the phone number assigned to the C3's GSM SIM card ring all connected phones normally, exactly as an incoming landline call would.

    Security Panel Integration

The C3 continuously checks the status of the existing PSTN line feeding a security panel. If that line is unavailable, the C3 emulates the line signal to the panel so the panel can still dial out — over the GSM cellular network — to reach the central monitoring station when an alarm occurs.
