HAI 1106W PC Access Software — Manual

Full owner's manual for the HAI (Home Automation, Inc.) Model 1106W PC Access for Windows software, covering installation, program operation, and remote/local/network access for OmniLT, Omni, Omni II, Omni IIe, OmniPro, OmniPro II, Lumina, and Lumina Pro home control systems.

Overview

PC Access for Windows lets you access an HAI automation system over telephone, direct serial connection (RS-232/RS-485), or network (Ethernet/Internet using a secure, encrypted link on Omni IIe, OmniPro II, Lumina, and Lumina Pro controllers). It runs on Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP.

With PC Access you can create/maintain account files, download configuration to your system, upload configuration from your system, print an account file, download software updates from the Internet, create/view/modify programs, view/modify unit/zone/button/code/area/message names and voice descriptions, view setup information, view the event log, view real-time system/zone/unit/temperature status, and send control/security/button/temperature/message commands.

Installation

1. Insert the 1106W PC Access CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Select Run from the Start menu.
3. Type <drive>:setup (e.g., d:setup).
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To update from a previous version, simply re-run the setup program. Starting with version 2.4, the configuration filename changed from PCA.CFG to PCA01.CFG; PC Access 2.4+ can still read old account files but writes only in the new format.

First-Time Startup

• On first run you'll be prompted for a security stamp (used to encrypt your account files) — write it down; you'll need the same stamp to reinstall or access your files on another PC.
• Default login password is PASSWORD — change it via Configure | Password. If you forget it, you must reinstall the software to restore the default.
• Default communication is Serial on COM1. Change communications port, baud rate, and modem command strings via Configure | Modem.
• To reinstall / reset the security stamp, delete PCA01.CFG and restart PC Access.

Menu Reference

File Menu

Open, Close, Save, Save As, New (create account file for OmniLT/Omni/Omni II/Omni IIe/OmniPro/OmniPro II/Lumina/Lumina Pro), Import/Export (.exp template files), Download from PC / Upload to PC (sync configuration with your controller), Print, About, Check for New Version (Internet Update Wizard), Exit.

Setup Menu

• Codes – modify security codes
• Programs – create/edit automation programs with Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear All/Search; each program has a When (time-of-day, sunrise/sunset offset, or event button trigger), Command (control, security, button, all on/off, scene, temperature, message, energy commands), and &If condition(s)
• Dial – telephone setup
• Arming – security arming options
• Names/Voice – edit unit/zone/button/code/thermostat/area/message names and up to 4 voice descriptions each
• Misc – miscellaneous setup items

Show Menu

Events – displays the uploaded event log. Status – real-time System/Area/Zone/Unit/Temperature status pages; double-click a Unit or Temperature item to open its command dialog directly.

Command Menu

Control (off/on/off-for-time/on-for-time/dim/brighten/level/ramp), Security (arm modes, bypass/restore zones), Button (macro), All Lights On, All Units Off, Temperature (heat/cool setpoints, energy saver, thermostat mode/fan/hold), Message (show/log/clear/say/phone/send), Set Time.

Connect Menu

Modem (Local Access, On-line, Answer Callback, Hang Up, Initialize), Serial, Network (Connect/Disconnect to Omni IIe/OmniPro II/Lumina/Lumina Pro via Ethernet/Internet).

Configure Menu

Modem (command strings, port, baud rate — up to 3 init strings per account), Serial (global port/baud), Network (controller IP address, port, encryption key per account), Password.

Accessing Your System

Remote Modem Access

1. Dial into your system on the same phone line as the PC's modem; wait for the beep (or use the "call twice" method to bypass an answering machine: dial, let ring twice, hang up, wait ~10 seconds, dial again — system answers after one ring).
2. After the beep, enter your Master code — the voice menu starts.
3. Enter ##1 to enter PC Access mode.
4. Enter your Master code again when prompted.
5. Select On-line from Connect | Modem when you hear the modem tone.
6. Hang up the telephone when you hear the PC's modem tone — the status indicator changes from OFF-LINE to ON-LINE.

Local Modem Access

Connect the PC's modem to the same line as your system, press # (or # then Master code in high security mode), enter ##1, enter the Master code, then follow the same On-line/hang-up steps as remote access. Alternatively, use the Local Access command (Connect | Modem) to automate dialing — edit the local access modem command string with your Master code, e.g. change ATS11=150DT###11111 to ATS11=150DT###19876 for Master code 9876.

Serial Connections

PC Access logs in using the 4-digit code stored under Setup | Codes – ensure Code 1 is set to a valid Master code. Baud rate (75-9600) is set under Configure | Modem.

Network Connections

1. Open an Omni IIe, OmniPro II, Lumina, or Lumina Pro account file.
2. Click Configure >> Network. Enter the controller's IP address (local network) or public IP/domain name (Internet, e.g. www.homeauto.com).
3. Enter the configured port number.
4. Select the Encryption tab and enter the two-part encryption key exactly as shown on the console.
5. Click OK, then Connect >> Network >> Connect. "On-Line" appears in the lower right corner.

If connecting fails, verify the IP address, port, and encryption key match the console exactly, and that the first two octets of the controller's IP match your local network.

Modem Troubleshooting

1. Confirm your modem is Hayes-compatible. For OmniLT/Omni/OmniPro, the modem must support 300 bps Bell 103 protocol.
2. Confirm correct port assignment — external modems typically use COM1/COM2, internal modems COM3/COM4 (Device Manager > Modem tab shows the assigned port). Set the matching port/baud rate under Configure | Modem.
3. Verify the modem initialization string under Configure | Modem. Default: AT&FX0S0=0S10=20&C1&D2 (AT=attention, &F=factory reset, X0=basic result codes/dial without tone, S0=0=disable auto-answer, S10=20=2-second carrier loss wait, &C1=true carrier detect reporting, &D2=hang up when DTR dropped).
4. Disable software handshaking (use hardware RTS/CTS or none) and disable error correction/compression if problems persist.

Licensing

Single-computer license; backup copies of the software permitted for archival purposes only. No reverse engineering, decompiling, or renting/leasing. Limited warranty: software performs substantially per written materials for one year from receipt; HAI's sole liability is refund, repair, or replacement of defective software.
