    August 31, 2026 4 min read

Installation manual for the GoControl WS15Z-1 Z-Wave RF-controlled 120VAC wall mounted switch (Series 300).

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation manual for the GoControl WS15Z-1 Z-Wave Wall Mounted Switch (Series 300) — a 120VAC, 15-amp maximum RF-controlled wall switch with scene and Network Wide Inclusion (NWI) support.

    Overview

The GoControl family of Z-Wave certified wireless lighting and security products includes LED fixtures, bulbs, switches, dimmers, outlets, plug-in modules, thermostats, alert sounders, motion sensors, and door/window sensors. The WS15Z-1 can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network alongside certified devices from other manufacturers; all non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, improving network reliability.

DANGER — Shock Hazard. Read and understand these instructions before installing. Installation must comply with the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). A qualified electrician is recommended. Do not exceed a controlled load of 1800 watts. Indoor use only.

    Important Installation Note

This unit must be added to the network only where it will be permanently installed. Its proper mesh-network operation depends on knowing its location relative to other nodes — you cannot "test bench" configure it and then relocate/install it elsewhere.

    Installation

    • Wire in place of an existing wall switch. The WS15Z-1 must be wired to the same line (or neutral) as the load it controls, and not to any other neutral. If multiple neutrals share a box, separate them to preserve circuit integrity.
    • Caution: do not wire the unit "live" — verify power is off at the circuit before wiring.

    Terminals

    • Neutral — white wire
    • 120VAC Line — black wire
    • Load — blue wire (15 amps maximum); WS15Z-1 and the load must share the same neutral
    • Ground — green

The switch paddle can be tapped top or bottom to configure the device, and the scored trim tab breaks flush with the plastic edge when the decorative trim plate is used.

    Adding to a Network

    1. With the Controller in Discovery/Add Mode, tap the switch once for Network Wide Inclusion, or twice for Standard Inclusion.
    2. Confirm the Controller indicates "device was added" — the LED will stop blinking.
    3. The device should appear in the Controller's switch list.

If the addition fails, repeat the steps.

    Removing from a Network

    1. Set the Controller into Removal Mode per its instructions to delete the WS15Z-1.
    2. Remove the switch by tapping the paddle twice.
    3. Confirm the Controller indicates "device was removed."

    Basic Operation (Local Control)

    • Tap the top of the switch to turn the attached load ON.
    • Tap the bottom of the switch to turn the attached load OFF.

    LED / Night Light Behavior

By default, the LED turns ON when the load is OFF (acting as a night light). This can be reconfigured to turn ON when the load is ON, or to other behaviors (see Configuration below).

    Remote Control

The WS15Z-1 responds to BASIC and BINARY Z-Wave commands — check your Controller's documentation to confirm it can transmit these commands.

Advanced Operation — All On / All Off

The WS15Z-1 supports ALL ON / ALL OFF commands, configurable four ways (check your Controller for available settings):

    1. Responds to both ALL ON and ALL OFF
    2. Responds to ALL OFF only, ignores ALL ON
    3. Responds to ALL ON only, ignores ALL OFF
    4. Responds to both ALL ON and ALL OFF (duplicate of #1 in source manual)

    Configuration Parameters

Parameter 3 — Night Light / LED Behavior (1 byte)

    Value Behavior
0 (default) LED OFF when load is on, ON when load is off (night-light mode)
1 LED ON when load is on, OFF when load is off
    2 LED always on
    3 LED always off
4 LED blinks during RF transmissions to/from the device

    Parameter 4 — Invert Switch (1 byte)

    Value Behavior
0 (default) Top of switch = ON, bottom = OFF
1 Bottom of switch = ON, top = OFF

    Resetting to Defaults

Each configuration parameter can be reset individually by setting the default bit in the Configuration Set command (see your Controller's documentation). All configuration settings reset automatically when the WS15Z-1 is excluded from the Z-Wave network via the Controller's node-reset function.
