    August 31, 2026 2 min read

Initial setup guide for Global Caché Global Connect chassis modules (HDMI switching, IR/sensor I/O, RS232 serial, and relay/contact closure modules).

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

This Quick Start Guide covers initial setup for all Global Caché Global Connect chassis modules, including HDMI switching, IR/sensor I/O, RS232 serial control, and contact-closure relay modules. For detailed configuration instructions, see the full Global Connect User Guide at globalcache.com/downloads.

    Getting Started

    1. Connect Global Connect — Connect the unit to the network via Ethernet. Power it using the included power supply, or via a PoE switch on the RJ45 connector marked "PoE IN" if using a PoE-capable unit.
    2. Discover Global Connect Modules — Download and run iHelp from globalcache.com/download. Wait up to 20 seconds for all modules to be discovered.
    3. Open Configuration Web Pages — Right-click the first unconfigured module in iHelp and select Configure, or manually enter the unit's IP address in a browser.
    4. Configure IP Address — Global Connect modules default to DHCP. To set a static IP, select Network Settings, change DHCP to Disabled, and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS servers. Click Apply Changes, then Back to return home.
    5. Configure the Module — Click the module's settings tab and configure it for the attached devices (see module-specific notes below).
    6. Repeat steps 3–5 for all remaining Global Connect modules in the chassis.

    Module-Specific Configuration

    • GCHMX3 (HDMI 3:1 Switch) — Provides 3:1 HDMI switching plus CEC control via CEC injection. No configuration is necessary for basic switching; to test, set Output Port to On, select the desired input port, and click Apply Changes.
    • GCIR3 (IR Output, Sensor Input) — Provides 3 independent IR outputs or 3 sensor inputs via iTach sensor cables, including 3 flashing IR emitters and one non-visible long-range IR blaster. Plug in emitters/blaster or sensor cables (blaster goes to IR port 3), then select Emitter, Blaster, or a sensor option on the configuration page and click Apply Changes. For sensor cables, "Sensor" enables polled input; "Sensor Notify" enables a notification beacon.
    • GC232 (RS232 Serial) — Allows serial control of RS232 devices. Configure serial settings (baud rate, etc.) to match the connected device — check that device's manual for the correct settings — then click Apply Changes.
    • GCRL3A (Relay, Contact Closure) — No configuration is needed for the relays; state controls are provided on the configuration page for testing purposes only.

    Troubleshooting

Global Connect modules can be reset to factory defaults by depressing the first (left-most) LED/light pipe of the module for 10 seconds, until the LED flashes rapidly, indicating a reset will occur. See the full Global Connect User Guide for additional information.
