  • Global Caché GC-IRL — Infrared Learner (PC-based IR Code Capture Tool)

    September 08, 2026 1 min read

Diagram and feature overview for the Global Caché GC-IRL infrared learner — capture IR remote codes via RS-232 for use with GC-100, iTach, and other automation systems.

    Full text manual (for reference)

The Global Caché GC-IRL is a USB/RS-232 infrared learner used to capture IR commands from remote controls for use in home automation and control systems (compatible with the GC-100 command format).

    How It Works

    • Point any remote control at the GC-IRL's IR sensor from 6–24 inches away and press a button.
    • The GC-IRL captures the full IR spectrum (30 kHz – 500 kHz) and digitizes the signal.
    • The unit connects to a PC via RS-232, where the free IR Learner Utility displays the captured code.
    • Codes are shown in GC-100 or CCF format and automatically copied to the clipboard for easy database creation.

    Key Features

    • Captures full IR spectrum signals from 30 kHz to 500 kHz
    • Digitizes IR signals for use in automation/control system programming
    • Works with PCs running Windows 2000/XP
    • Free companion IR Learner Utility software for capture, display, and clipboard export

    Typical Use

The GC-IRL is used by integrators and DIY users to build custom IR command databases for devices that aren't already in a system's built-in code library — for example, capturing the exact codes from an obscure or older remote control so they can be reproduced by a GC-100, iTach, or other Global Caché IR-output device.
