    Installation manual for the GE Z-Wave® In-Wall Smart Switch, Models 46202 / 43074 / ZW4009DV (ZW4009).

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation manual for the GE Z-Wave® In-Wall Smart Switch, Models 46202 / 43074 / ZW4009DV (ZW4009) — a Z-Wave wireless lighting control switch that mounts independently and supports up to four Add-on Switches for multi-location control.

Getting to Know Your New Z-Wave Device

    • Turn ON/OFF manually or remotely via the Z-Wave controller.
    • Can be included in multiple groups and scenes.
    • Each smart control supports up to 4 add-on switches for multi-location wiring — see ezaddonswitch.com.
    • Uses screw terminal wiring for Line (Hot)/Load, Ground, Neutral, and Traveler (3-way/4-way installations).
    • Advanced features are configurable via a Z-Wave controller supporting the Configuration command class — see the full list at www.ezzwave.com/config.
    • LED guide-light behavior is cycle-selectable (see below).

Important! The fixture controlled by this switch must not exceed 960W (incandescent). The switch is designed only for use with permanently installed fixtures, and must be mounted independently in vertical position only.

    Installation

⚠ Warning — Shock Hazard: Turn OFF power to the branch circuit at the service panel before wiring. All connections must be made with power OFF. This device must be installed per the National Electric Code (US) or Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations. If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
    1. Shut off power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box; verify power is OFF before continuing.
    2. Remove the wall plate and switch mounting screws, then carefully remove the switch from the box without disconnecting the wires.
    3. Identify the five screw terminals: A. GROUND — green/bare; B/C. LINE or LOAD — black, connected to the fixture; D. TRAVELER — red/other, 3-way installations only; E. NEUTRAL — white.
    4. Match the screw terminals to the existing switch wires, labeling wires per the previous terminal connections.
    5. Use 14 AWG or larger wire, suitable for at least 80°C, for Line, Load, Neutral, Ground, and Traveler connections. Rated for copper wire only.
    6. Wire strip length: 5/8" (16mm) using the enclosure's holes. UL specifies a screw tightening torque of 14 Kgf-cm (12 lbf-in).
    7. Connect the green/bare ground wire to GROUND. Connect the black wire from the light to LINE or LOAD. Connect the black wire from the service panel (hot) to the other LINE or LOAD terminal. Connect the white wire to NEUTRAL (use the included jumper wire if needed).
    8. The Traveler terminal is only used for 3-way/4-way wiring — leave it insulated in a 2-way (single switch, single load) installation.
    9. Insert the switch into the box carefully, avoiding pinched or crushed wires, secure with the supplied screws, and mount the wallplate.
    10. Reapply power at the fuse box/breaker and test the system.

For multi-location (3-way/4-way) installations, a GE Add-on Switch is required. Connecting the traveler terminal to a standard, non-GE switch will cause damage or improper function — do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until the GE Add-on Switches are correctly installed. Refer to the Add-on Switch manual for details.

    Basic Operation

The connected light can be turned ON/OFF in two ways: (1) manually via the front-panel toggle, or (2) remotely with a Z-Wave controller.

    Manual Control

    • Push the toggle up and release to turn the connected fixture ON.
    • Push the toggle down and release to turn the connected fixture OFF.

    LED Guide Light

An LED behind the toggle serves as a guide light or status indicator. Cycle through options by pressing up three times quickly, then down once:

    1. LED is off permanently (default).
    2. LED is on permanently (illuminates the switch in the dark).
    3. LED is on when the load is off (guide light in the dark).
    4. LED is on when the load is on (indicates the switch is energized).
