GE Interlogix Kalatel KTC-117/217/247 Compact Cameras — User Manual

User manual for the GE Interlogix Kalatel KTC compact camera series (KTC-117V3/V9, KTC-217CV3/CV9, KTC-247CEV3/CEV9) — all-in-one 24VAC CCTV cameras with bracket, power supply, and BNC connectors included.

Before You Begin

Installation should be performed by a qualified service person and should conform to local codes. This manual requires a basic knowledge of CCTV systems and low-voltage electrical wiring. Camera Models

Package contents: 24VAC camera, mounting hardware and BNC connectors, mounting bracket, power supply unit.

Camera Back Panel

The back panel includes: a DIP switch, direct drive auto iris level adjuster, terminal block, power LED, and video out connector.

Programming the DIP Switch

DIP switch functions differ slightly by model — KTC-117 cameras have a flicker-control switch instead of a white-balance switch (available on KTC-217/247 instead).

Backlight Compensation (BLC Off/On)

Controls iris gain and white balance simultaneously. Set to ON if foreground objects appear silhouetted against a brighter background — this gives them greater definition. Compensation may be insufficient when the background is extremely bright.

Flicker Control (FL Off/On) — KTC-117 only

If installed under fluorescent lighting and the picture flickers, set FL to ON to minimize the effect.

White Balance (ATW or FIX) — KTC-217/247 only

• ATW (Auto-Tracking White Balance): continuously tracks the scene's color range and adjusts white balance automatically — use if lighting/color conditions change constantly.
• FIX (Fixed White Balance): uses white as a reference and adjusts blue/red content for balanced color — use if the scene's color range stays constant.

View (Normal or Mirror)

Normal shows the image as-is; Mirror flips the image left-to-right before display.

Zoom (Normal or E Zoom)

Normal shows no digital magnification. E Zoom digitally zooms approximately 3x, with reduced image quality versus normal mode.

Installing the Bracket and Camera

The camera can be mounted on a vertical surface, or below/above a horizontal surface.

Mounting the Bracket

1. Unscrew the mounting plate from the rest of the bracket
2. Place the mounting plate against the mounting surface and mark the three mounting-hole locations
3. Prepare the mounting holes appropriate to the surface type (concrete, wood, etc.) and fasteners used — the camera ships with fasteners/anchors; use only if appropriate for your surface
4. Attach the mounting plate to the surface. (To adjust bracket length, remove one or both optional post extensions.)
5. Attach the remaining bracket pieces to the mounting plate

Attaching the Camera to the Bracket

1. Turn the wing nut on the bracket counterclockwise to free the ball-and-socket bolt
2. Screw the ball-and-socket bolt into the bracket hole on the top or bottom of the camera
3. Tighten the lock ring to secure the camera to the bolt

Adjusting the Camera Angle

1. If needed, loosen the wing nut to free the ball-and-socket bolt
2. Swivel the camera on the bolt to the desired angle
3. Turn the wing nut clockwise to tighten and secure the position

Making Cable Connections

Note: this camera is 24VAC only.

1. Attach the provided BNC connectors to the ends of the video cable
2. Connect the video cable to the monitor's "video in" BNC connector
3. Connect the other end of the video cable to the camera's VIDEO OUT connector
4. Loosen the ~AC24V terminal connectors on the terminal block and connect the power cable
5. Tighten the terminal screws until snug, ensuring power leads are secure
6. Connect the other end of the power cable to the power supply unit and tighten its connector screws
7. Supply power to the camera — the PWR LED illuminates. If it doesn't, check the terminal block connections and power source.

Making Camera Adjustments

Opening the Housing

1. Hold the camera with fingers on the bottom, thumb on the grip strips atop the door
2. Press down on the door with your thumb to unlock it from the housing
3. Swivel the door open on its hinge

Adjusting Zoom and Focus

1. Loosen the zoom ring thumbscrew, turn the zoom ring to the desired setting, then re-tighten
2. Loosen the focus ring thumbscrew, turn the focus ring to the desired setting, then re-tighten

Adjusting the Direct Drive Level

Use an insulated adjustment tool to rotate the direct drive auto iris level adjuster on the back panel to match your lighting conditions, achieving a good picture across varying light levels.
