Installation instructions for the FortrezZ WWA-01AA Wireless Water & Freeze Alarm Sensor — a battery-powered Z-Wave leak/freeze detector for basements, sump pumps, water heaters, and other flood-prone spots.

    Initial Installation

    • Includes 2x AA batteries. Remove the isolator from the battery terminal — you'll hear 3 beeps confirming activation.
    • If you don't hear 3 beeps, consult the troubleshooting section of the full user manual.
    • Use the provided 4 screws to secure the cover. A bead of silicone caulk around the screws is recommended after assembly.

    Choosing a Mounting Location

    • Interior, dry locations only. Common spots: Jacuzzi tubs, under sinks, sump pumps, refrigerators, water heaters, toilets, washing machines.
    • Avoid mounting near metal frames or enclosures — this can reduce RF range.
    • Avoid overly humid spaces, which can trigger false alarms.
    • Position the unit so any leak will puddle onto the water sensor pads rather than dripping directly on the unit.

    Testing the Sensor

Moisten a paper towel and place it over both metal pads on the water sensor. The alarm should sound within 4–5 seconds. If it doesn't sound, check for an old/dead/incorrectly installed battery, insufficient moisture, or a damaged sensor. Once confirmed, remove the towel, dry the pads, and hold the button for 2 seconds to clear the alarm.

    Battery & Low Battery

    • Sends a low-battery alert over Z-Wave and blinks the LED periodically when battery is low.
    • Batteries are not covered under manufacturer warranty.
    • Recommended "wake-up" cycle: 12 hours or more (default controller wake-up is often ~4 hours — increase this in your controller settings). Wake-up cycle does not affect leak detection response time — an actual water leak still triggers an alarm within seconds.
    • Do not continually test the unit — alarm mode uses significant battery. Replace the battery after any real alarm event to ensure continued reliable operation.

    Z-Wave Network Programming

    • Inclusion: Set the controller to inclusion mode, then press and hold the button ~2 seconds until the controller confirms and the unit beeps.
    • Exclusion: Set the controller to exclusion mode, then press and hold the button ~2 seconds until confirmed (beep sounds).
    • Awake mode: Press and hold the button for at least 2 seconds to keep the unit awake and listening for ~30 seconds.
    • Associations: Supports 2 association groups (up to 5 devices each). Group 1 = Water Alarm (Basic Set Command sent on trigger; reports repeat at regular intervals while active, with a final "no alarm" report on clear). Group 2 = Freeze Alarm (same behavior, cleared automatically when temperature rises).
