    Overview

    This Technical Appendix supplements the FortrezZ MIMOlite Wireless Interface/Bridge Module User Manual with detailed Z-Wave protocol characteristics, Command Class configuration parameters, self-test procedures, and analog input voltage conversion data for advanced installers and integrators.

    Association Groups

    Group Behavior
    1 Input triggered/untriggered sends a Basic Set to turn associated device(s) on/off.
    2 Periodic MultiLevel Sensor report of the input's analog voltage level.
    3 Alarm Command Class report sent on power dropout (if residual power allows).
    4 Binary Sensor report sent when input is triggered/untriggered.
    5 Pulse meter counts sent periodically (same interval as Group 2).

    Maximum of two nodes per association group. Notes: MLS Association Groups 2 and 5 transmissions do not use explorer frames if nodes don't ACK; rapid triggers on Groups 1/4 can block transmissions to non-responding nodes; on power dropout, the MIMOlite likely only has enough residual power to notify the first node in Association Group 3.

    Self-Test Procedure

    Caution: Self-test overwrites all settings and removes the MIMOlite from the network.

    Entry: Hold the Program button while powering up the MIMOlite. The Status LED remains lit while held.

    1. EEPROM Test — writes/reads bytes from EEPROM. Success: SIG1 LED lights faintly. Failure: Status LED stays lit (test halts; erases prior Configuration Command Class setups).
    2. Software Verification Test — checksums program memory. Success: SIG1 LED turns off. Failure: Status LED stays lit (test halts).
    3. Relay Test — attempts to turn Relay1 on twice; relay clicks should be audible.
    4. RF Output Test — RF output for 2 seconds; SIG1 LED lights during this test (verify with spectrum analyzer).

    Tests run in sequence quickly; after Test 4 completes, the MIMOlite resets and resumes normal operation.

    Analog Input Voltage Conversion (SIG1)

    The input signal voltage converts non-linearly to a 12-bit Multilevel Sensor value (0–4095 counts), at a nominal 13.5V power supply. Do not exceed an input voltage of 16V. Selected reference points:

    For triggering configuration, the lower 4 least-significant bits are dropped, producing an 8-bit trigger value (0–255 counts). Example: a ~2V trigger point (2057 decimal / 808 hex, 12-bit) corresponds to 80 hex / 128 decimal at 8-bit trigger resolution. It is recommended to verify configured trigger points using the Multilevel Sensor Command Class.

    The default analog trigger threshold for SIG1 is approximately 1V (matching the default digital threshold configuration). Triggering ranges can be configured to trigger between or outside two thresholds, with hysteresis at each endpoint to prevent chatter from small voltage fluctuations, via Configuration Command Class Parameters 4–8.

    Input-to-Relay Mapping

    The MIMOlite can be configured (Parameter 3, Bit 0) to automatically turn Relay1 on when input SIG1 is triggered. When enabled, Z-Wave commands to set the relay are overridden and no Z-Wave notification is sent on automatic relay changes — though relay state can still be queried via Basic Command Class Get or Binary Switch Command Class Get.

    Power Dropout Behavior

    A periodic Power Dropout status blink occurs if supply voltage drops below approximately 10.5V. The MIMOlite implements Alarm Command Class V1, sending an alarm report (Type 0x08, Level 0xFF) to Association Group 3 nodes on dropout, and a recovery report (Level 0x00) once power rises above approximately 11V.

    On power loss, the MIMOlite attempts to save pulse counts to non-volatile memory using residual circuit power, though this is not guaranteed — an external backup battery or periodic controller polling of pulse counts is recommended to avoid data loss.
