    User manual for the FortrezZ FTS05 Flood & Temperature Sensor — a Z-Wave Plus security-enabled sensor that detects water leaks and monitors temperature, sending network alerts on high/low conditions.

    Overview

    The FTS05 sensor is a Z-Wave Plus Security-enabled device that detects water leaks and measures temperature. In case of a leak or high/low temperature condition, it sends alerts across your Z-Wave network. It's compatible with other Z-Wave and Z-Wave Plus certified products, and comes in region-specific part numbers: FTS05US and FTS05EU. It pairs well with an automatic water shut-off valve and flow meter for a complete damage-prevention system.

    Warnings and Precautions

    • Do not store highly flammable items (oily rags, other combustibles) near the FTS05
    • Do not apply electrical power to the unit unless fully assembled
    • Sensor functionality relies on wireless (RF) transmission, which can be subject to interference or loss of communication — this sensor must not be used in life support and/or safety applications
    • Do not place near metal objects, which decreases range and can block wireless transmissions
    • It is your responsibility to ensure the FTS05's functionality and installation meets your requirements

    Assemble & Test Your Sensor

    Test the sensor's functionality before adding it to your network:

    1. Insert new batteries and confirm the LED blinks
    2. Make sure the batteries are seated in place and secure
    3. Attach the back cover using the 4 provided screws, aligning the sensing prongs — do not over-tighten
    4. Pour a small amount of water onto a plate or countertop, then place the sensor on the wet area so the sensing element touches the water
    5. Within 5 seconds, the LED blinks twice to indicate an alert — dry off the sensor with a towel to reset
    6. If the LED doesn't blink, refer to the Troubleshooting section

    Where to Install the Sensor

    Suitable for normally dry, interior locations only — do not install outdoors or in areas that get wet or have high humidity. Avoid placing near a metal frame or other metal appliances that could affect range. Place the unit flat on the floor or inside a cabinet so that any leaks won't drip directly on the unit but instead form a puddle next to it that wets the sensing element. Velcro tape is a great way to keep the sensor in place.

    Note on concrete/stone floors: Placing the sensor directly on a cold concrete or natural stone floor can cause false alarms from humidity/out-gassing during curing. Use a small spacer (foam tape or Velcro, about 3mm thick) between the sensor and floor — thick enough to avoid false alarms but low enough for the sensing element to still detect leaks.

    Including the Sensor in Your Z-Wave Network

    1. Install two AA batteries and secure the bottom cover with the 4 screws
    2. Position the sensor within 25 feet of the Z-Wave hub or another Z-Wave signal-repeating device
    3. Set your Z-Wave hub to Inclusion mode — refer to your controller's manual for details

    Inclusion (Adding to Network)

    1. Set inclusion mode on your controller
    2. Press and hold the program button for 1–3 seconds — the LED blinks twice on success

    Exclusion (Removing from Network)

    1. Set exclusion mode on your controller
    2. Press and hold the button for 1–3 seconds — the LED blinks four times once complete

    Trouble connecting? Press the program button and observe the LED — you may need to exclude the unit from a network first, then re-include it. Note: some Z-Wave hubs may not support this device — check the manufacturer's website for compatible hubs.

    Status LED Indications

    Fast 1 Switch pressed (continually on while pressed)
    Fast 2 In-network after battery replacement or add/inclusion (also after button held while in-network)
    Fast 4 Out of network after battery replacement or remove/exclusion (also given if add wasn't completed) — may take up to 30 seconds to display
    Fast 5 Low battery (repeats every ~40 seconds)
    Slow 1 Firmware Update (OTA) mode started, continuous while waiting
    Slow 2 Water alarm
    Slow 3 Heat alarm (high or low set point triggered)
    Slow 4 Active alarm cleared (water or temperature alarm no longer active)

    During an Alarm

    If water is detected, or an over/under-temperature condition occurs, the unit sends alert message(s) to the Z-Wave network — the specific message depends on how the sensor is configured. Drying the sensor contacts clears a water alarm. If a temperature alarm condition is no longer present, an "alarm clear" message is also sent. Your controller's capabilities determine whether you can remotely check status and set up automatic mobile notifications.

    Associations

    Once on a network, use your controller to associate the sensor with other Z-Wave devices — for example, automatically triggering a water shut-off valve when a leak is detected. The sensor supports 8 association groups with a maximum of 2 associated devices per group. Groups 5–8 send temperature reports to an associated device; select only one of these to optimize battery life (more frequent notifications decrease battery life).

    Advanced Configuration

    High/low temperature set points are configurable once the sensor is included on the network — the low set point must be at least 2°C below the high set point. Low cannot be set below -10°C; high cannot exceed 70°C.

    Factory Reset & Firmware Updates

    Factory reset (use only when the Z-Wave controller is missing or inoperable):

    1. Press and hold the program button for longer than 15 seconds
    2. Release the button
    3. The LED flashes approximately 30 times

    This can be done in or out of network — when done in-network, the device leaves the network and all configurations/associations reset to default.

    Over-the-air (OTA) firmware update mode (use fresh batteries if running on batteries):

    1. Quickly press the program button 3 times while in-network
    2. Then quickly activate your controller's update mode

    Do not leave OTA mode running indefinitely without immediately starting the update at the controller. Press the button once to exit OTA mode.

    Maintenance

    The sensor uses 2 AA standard alkaline 1.5V batteries (not included). Replace at minimum once a year:

    1. Remove the bottom cover to expose the batteries
    2. Remove the AA batteries and replace with new ones
    3. Re-fasten the bottom cover with the four screws

    The sensor sends a low-battery alert via Z-Wave when battery level is low.

    The product carries a one-year limited manufacturer warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use. FortrezZ, LLC disclaims implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, and is not liable for consequential damages. Liability is capped at the amount paid for the product. If not satisfied, return the FTS05 to your distributor for an exchange or refund within 30 days of purchase, or return it to FortrezZ with an RGA number.
