Installation guide for the EZ-Cap Pre-Wire Installation Kit — a patented system for pre-wiring speaker locations in walls and ceilings, allowing easy future access to low-voltage wiring while remaining inconspicuous when not in use.

    Overview

The EZ-Cap Pre-Wire Installation Kit is designed to dramatically simplify the low-voltage pre-wire process. It allows customers to run speaker wiring during construction and install speaker components at any point in the future, while the wire outlet remains inconspicuous behind a removable cap when not in use. It must only be used in conjunction with low-voltage wire and can be used in either a wall or ceiling application.

    Requirements

    • Wall studs or ceiling structure must be on 24" centers or smaller.
    • Wall must have an interior depth of at least 3 inches.

    Pre-Wire Kit Installation (During Construction)

    1. Attach the EZ-Cap Bridge to each side of two adjacent studs using drywall screws (or any flat-head screw at least ¼" in diameter). Use two screws per side, positioning the wire outlet hole near the center of the stud opening. Built-in 16" and 24" center stud indicators make positioning easy without measuring.
    2. After attaching the bridge, pull the desired low-voltage wire through the wire inlet hole(s) at the top of the wire cavity. Coil excess wire in the wall/ceiling to suit the future device (e.g. 24"-36" for an in-wall speaker), then tie a knot in the wire so it can't be pulled from the kit during construction.
    3. Proceed with drywall installation. After drywall is up, only the wire outlet hole is visible.
    4. Install the cap portion of the kit: clean any excess sheetrock mud/paint from the outlet hole with a utility knife if needed, then screw the cap clockwise by hand into the wire outlet hole until it sits flush against the drywall.

Surface Mount Speaker Installation (Later, When Ready)

    1. Remove the cap by screwing it counter-clockwise by hand — this gives access to the low-voltage wire.
    2. Drill the desired hole size in the center of the cap.
    3. Feed the wire through the hole in the cap from the rear, then screw the cap clockwise back into the wire outlet hole until flush against the drywall.
    4. If the speaker mount is large enough to cover the hole in the drywall, steps 2-3 can be skipped.
    5. Mount the speaker for the desired look.

In-Wall or Ceiling Speaker Installation (Later, When Ready)

    1. Remove the cap by screwing it counter-clockwise by hand to access the low-voltage wire.
    2. Using your in-wall or ceiling speaker's install template, center the template on the EZ-Cap wire outlet hole and trace the desired hole with a pencil. (Use a stud finder first to confirm stud/ceiling structure locations before cutting.)
    3. Use a sheetrock saw to cut the desired hole to match the speaker. After removing the sheetrock, cut through the EZ-Cap bridge with tin snips or similar cutters, then reach in and push the bridge up/outward until it breaks at the built-in break points. Repeat on the other side.
    4. Follow your speaker manufacturer's installation instructions to connect and mount the speaker.
