Overview

The GE In-Wall Smart Motion Switch (model ZW4006, part 26931) is a Z-Wave certified wireless lighting control that combines a Z-Wave switch with a built-in motion sensor. It supports single-pole installation or 3-way/4-way wiring configurations using up to two GE-branded add-on switches, and is compatible with all incandescent and CFL/LED bulbs.

⚠ Safety Warnings

• Risk of fire, electrical shock, and burns. Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances — the device may be in a different room than the controlled appliance, and unintentional activation can occur from wrong remote button presses or timed event programming.
• Do not use Z-Wave devices to control electric heaters or any appliance that could present a hazardous condition due to unattended, unintentional, or automatic power-on.
• Not for use with medical or life-support equipment. Z-Wave enabled devices should never supply power to or control the on/off status of medical or life-support equipment.
• Turn OFF power to the branch circuit for the switch and lighting fixture at the service panel before wiring. All connections must be made with power OFF. Installation must comply with the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). Consult a qualified electrician if unsure.

Load Limits

The fixture controlled by this switch must not exceed 960W incandescent, 1800W (15A) resistive, or 1/2HP motor. Designed only for permanently installed fixtures.

Controls

Single-Switch Installation

1. Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Verify power is OFF before continuing.
2. Remove the wallplate, then the switch mounting screws, and carefully remove the switch from the box without disconnecting wires.
3. Match the screw terminals to the wires connected to the existing switch, then disconnect and label them.
4. In multi-gang boxes, it may be necessary to break off one or both sides of the scored tabs on the front yoke (does not affect the switch's electrical rating).
5. Connect the green or bare copper ground wire to the GROUND terminal.
6. Connect the black wire to the fixture to the LOAD terminal, and the black wire from the electrical service panel (hot) to the LINE terminal.
7. Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal (use the included jumper wire if needed). The traveler terminal is only used for 3-way/4-way wiring — leave insulated/unused in a 2-way (one switch, one load) system.
8. Insert the switch into the box carefully to avoid pinching or crushing wires, then secure with the supplied screws and mount the wallplate.
9. Reapply power at the fuse box or circuit breaker and test the system.

Wire requirements: Use 14AWG or larger wire suitable for at least 80°C. Strip insulation 1" (25mm) for screw terminal attachment, or 5/8" (16mm) for the enclosure's push-in holes. UL specifies a screw tightening torque of 12 lbf-in (14 Kgf-cm). This switch is rated for and intended to only be used with copper wire.

Multi-switch (3-way/4-way): refer to the GE Add-on Switch manual. The GE-branded add-on switch is required — connecting the traveler terminal to a standard, non-GE-branded switch will cause damage or improper function. Do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until add-on switches are correctly installed.

Programming Options (Modes of Operation)

Programming changes can be made through a compatible controller app, or directly at the switch via button presses. Press and hold to enter programming (flashing LED), then press & release the top or bottom button to select the setting shown, holding until the LED flashes the correct number of times.

Time-out duration (motion off-delay): 5 sec, 1 min, 5 min (default), 15 min, or 30 min — does not apply in Manual mode.

Light sensing (motion sensor only turns light on if room is dark): On or Off (default) — does not apply in Vacancy or Manual modes.

Motion sensitivity: High, Medium (default), or Low.

Basic Operation

• Occupancy mode (default): light turns on automatically when motion is detected and off when motion is no longer detected; also controllable remotely via Z-Wave.
• Vacancy mode: light turns on by pressing the top button, off automatically when motion is no longer detected; also controllable remotely.
• Manual mode: light is controlled entirely from the front panel buttons, or remotely via Z-Wave.

Changing Button Color

1. Pinch both tabs down to release the button.
2. Lift the button up and off.
3. Put the new button onto the switch by inserting the tabs near the motion sensor first, then the tabs on the opposite side.
4. Repeat for the button on the other side.

Adding to a Z-Wave Network

1. Follow your Z-Wave certified controller's instructions to include the switch to the network.
2. Once the controller is ready, press and release the top or bottom button on the smart switch to include it.

Once added, you have complete control to turn the lamp ON/OFF via groups, scenes, schedules, and interactive automations. If your controller supports Remote Access, you can control your lighting from mobile devices.

Excluding / Resetting

• To exclude: follow your controller's instructions to exclude a device, then press and release the top or bottom button when prompted.
• To return to factory defaults: press and release the top button ten times. Only use this if your network's primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Z-Wave Interoperability

This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, increasing network reliability. This device supports the Association Command Class (3 groups):

• Association Group 1: Lifeline, Binary Switch Report
• Association Group 2: Basic Set, controlled with the local load
• Association Group 3: Basic Set, controlled by pressing the On or Off button

Each association group supports up to 5 total nodes.
