Installation manual for the ELK-P412 — a 4 Amp, 12 Volt DC power supply and battery charger with enclosure, ideal for alarm, access control, and CCTV applications requiring up to 4 amps of distributed 12VDC power.

    Application

The ELK-P412 is a general purpose high current power supply and battery charger, ideal for alarm, access control, and CCTV applications requiring up to 4 Amps. It distributes 12 Volts DC power to three sets of DC power terminals, each with a voltage-present indicator LED and automatic resetting overload protection. A built-in low battery cutoff circuit protects the battery from deep discharge during extended AC power loss.

    Features

    • Switching power supply — no transformer needed
    • Regulated 12VDC output, capable of delivering 4 Amps
    • Automatic resetting overload protection
    • Three individually PTC-fused (2.5A) DC power outputs
    • Master AC and battery ON/OFF power switch
    • Visual AC and DC LED power indicators
    • Built-in battery charging circuit
    • Includes 6-foot AC power cord and cable clamp
    • Heavy duty enclosure
    • Automatic low battery cutoff protects battery from deep discharge
    • Lifetime limited warranty

    Specifications

    • DC Output Voltage: 13.8 Volts DC
    • Current Rating: 4 Amps
    • Auto-resetting "fuseless" circuit breakers (PTC)
    • AC Input Voltage Range: 85-264VAC @ 47-63Hz
    • Low Battery Cutoff: ~10 Volts
    • Ripple & Noise: 100mVp-p
    • Enclosure Dimensions: 12"H x 12"W x 3.25"D

    Installation / Operation

    1. Set the Master Power Switch (SW1) to Power Off.
    2. Mount the enclosure in a secure location near an AC outlet not controlled by a switch (power cord is 6 feet long).
    3. Connect devices to the DC output screw terminals. Each of the three output sets is limited to 2.5 Amps — if a device needs more than 2.5 Amps, parallel two sets of terminals (do not exceed 4 Amps total).
    4. Connect the battery to the battery wires, observing polarity.
    5. Plug in the AC cord. Warning: high voltage is now present at the power supply AC input terminals.
    6. Set the Master Power Switch to Power On. LEDs at the power outputs should light (if any are off, check for an overloaded condition). Connected devices are now powered.
    7. If AC power is lost, the Low Battery circuit disconnects the battery if its voltage drops below 10Vdc, preventing deep discharge.

    Hookup Configurations

    • Dual 2 Amp Hookup: Two separate 2 Amp continuous loads (e.g. sirens and cameras) on Output 1 and Output 2. Do not exceed 4 Amps total; Output 3 cannot be used in this configuration.
    • 4 Amp Hookup: Parallel any two outputs together for a single heavy continuous load up to 4 Amps. Output 3 cannot be used in this configuration.
    • Block Diagram: Each output can provide up to 2.5 Amps (individually PTC-fused at 2.5A), but combined load from all outputs must not exceed 4 Amps continuously. Current draw over 4 Amps will come from the battery.
    • AC Power Failure Indicator: Using an ELK-912 relay energized while AC power is on, losing AC power drops the relay out, closing COM and N.C. contacts to activate a 12V sounder powered from the battery.
