    The ELK-P212S is a Supervised Remote Power Supply / Battery Charger providing 12VDC output with up to 2 Amps of total current. It supervises AC power input and rechargeable battery status, reporting abnormal conditions back to an ELK M1 Control over the RS-485 4-wire data bus, or can be used stand-alone with any other Control (Security, Access, CCTV, etc.).

    Applications

    Power from the P212S can increase a control's capacity or remotely power devices such as motion detectors, keypads, zone expanders, sirens, and annunciators. Decentralized placement of expanders and other devices into strategic wiring closets, each with its own local supervised power supply, reduces wire home-runs and simplifies maintenance.

    Installation

    1. Turn Master Power Switch (SW1) to Off.
    2. Mount the board using the provided double-sided tape, or an optional ELK-SWP3 Mounting Plate with nylon standoffs (compatible with ELK-SWB14, SWB28, ELK-UB12, and other manufacturers' enclosures).
    3. Connect a 16.5V, 45VA transformer to the AC terminals using 18 ga. (min.) wire. Do NOT plug the transformer into a switched outlet.
    4. Connect devices to be powered to one of the two sets of DC Output Terminals (overload protected by a single self-restoring PTC at 2 Amps).
    5. Connect a rechargeable lead-acid battery (max. 12 Ah) to the red and black battery wires, observing polarity.

    Stand-Alone Application (Factory Default)

    In stand-alone mode the P212S is compatible with virtually any control or annunciator. It provides two Form "C" relay outputs for AC and Battery supervisory notification. When AC and Battery are normal, the relays are energized and the Com/N.O. contacts are CLOSED. Upon an AC failure or Low Battery condition, the relay changes state — Com/N.O. contacts OPEN and Com/N.C. contacts CLOSE. This flexibility lets the P212S interface with any alarm panel requiring an open or closed trouble indication.

    AC Time Delay (JP2): The AC Trouble output has a built-in delay after loss of AC to avoid nuisance trips from brief outages. Jumper JP2 selects 5 or 15 minutes of delay (short left two pins = 5 min; right two pins = 15 min).

    Testing on battery only: The low-battery shutoff circuitry normally prevents power-up on battery alone (no AC). For testing at construction sites with no AC available, momentarily short the two "START" circuit pads with a screwdriver tip.

    M1 Data Bus Application

    The P212S connects to the M1's 4-wire RS-485 Data Bus and enrolls as a "Type 1" Keypad device with a Bus Address. It's enrolled as a keypad so it can have a zone input (for AC/Battery supervisory reporting) and a programmable output, just like a real keypad — though it does take up one of the M1's maximum 16 keypad slots.

    Extra Setup Steps for M1 Data Bus Mode

    1. Install a short wire jumper connecting the unmarked top-right terminal to the "NEG" data bus terminal, to select M1 Data Bus mode.
    2. Program the Zone Definition of the associated Zone ID as "Power Supervisory Zone."

    The P212S needs only THREE connections to the M1 data bus: Negative (-), Data A, and Data B. The incoming Positive (+) red wire should be terminated ("parked") on the isolated "Spare" terminal rather than connected — never connect the Positive (+) wires of multiple power supplies together (it's fine to tie all Negative wires together).

    Data Bus Address Switch (1-16)

    Set via a 4-gang binary switch (values 1, 2, 4, 8) before enrollment. Example: switches 1 & 3 ON = address 5 (1+4). All switches OFF = address 16. Each address must be unique — do not duplicate an address already used by an enrolled keypad.

    Zone & Output Assignment by Bus Address

    Type 1, Address 1 → Zone 193 / Output 193, through Address 16 → Zone 208 / Output 208 (sequential).

    Enrolling the P212S onto the Data Bus

    1. From an enrolled M1 keypad, press ELK, then 9 for Installation Programming (enter the Installer PIN).
    2. Select "Bus Module Enrollment" — the M1 sends an enrollment message to all bus devices and displays the total enrolled bus modules.
    3. Determine the Zone ID for the P212S's bus address (per the table above), then use Keypad Installer Programming to set that zone's Definition to "32 = Power Supervisory Zone" and Type to "0 = EOL Supervised/RF."
    4. To enable Central Station reporting of AC Fail/Low Battery, set the Zone Report Code to a value of 1. To also report if the P212S is removed/turned off/disconnected, set System Report Code "SR07 Exp Module Tbl" to 1.

    Note: ElkRP software won't display Zones 193-208 until a Hardwired Exp. 13 zone group has been added — right-click Zones (Inputs), select New Hardwired Zones, choose "Zones 193-208 (Group 13)."

    Operation & Diagnostics

    • Normal (AC + Battery OK): Zone is in a normal/secure state. Confirm via Keypad Menu 87 (System Diagnostics), option 3 "Display Zone Voltage" — should read approx. "Volt = 06.8".
    • AC Power Failure: P212S immediately transmits via an electrical SHORT on the assigned zone. Diagnostic voltage reads "Volt = 00.0". The M1's own AC Fail Delay timer (Menu 12, option SR01, 000-255 min) governs when keypads display "AC Failure" and the event log shows "RemACFail". (Note: the local AC Trouble Relay follows JP2's delay setting independently.)
    • Low Battery: Detected via periodic load test; P212S transmits via an electrical OPEN on the assigned zone. Diagnostic voltage reads approx. "Volt = 12.x". Keypads display "Low Battery" and the log shows "RemLoBatt".
    • Output "B" (M1 mode): Freely programmable via M1 Rules for applications like triggering a door strike or resetting power to a latching detector.

    Battery Autotest Timing: Initial test 1.5 minutes after power-up, then every 4 hours. On the M1 bus, the P212S syncs its test time with the M1's main battery test, offset by minutes equal to its bus address (staggers multiple units). When AC is off, testing occurs every minute.
