    Application & Overview

    The ELK-6030P is a wireless PIR motion sensor designed for use with control/transceivers that support Elk's two-way technology, such as the ELK-M1XRFTW. Its dual-element pyroelectric sensor detects infrared energy changes across the field of view to trigger the built-in two-way radio, which transmits alarm, tamper, supervisory, and low-battery messages. Two-way acknowledgment lets the sensor avoid wasting battery power repeating unacknowledged transmissions, and a mandatory sleep cycle further extends battery life.

    The 6030P also introduces the Security/Convenience Light — a bright white LED that can quick-blip during motion/walk-test, flash during an audible alarm, glow solid when armed-away motion is detected, or be triggered by control commands (e.g. for camera illumination).

    Guidelines for Use

    • Indoor use only; mount on a wall or in a corner, with or without the supplied swivel bracket.
    • Install within 100 ft. of the control/transceiver (open-air range up to 400 ft. possible, but environment reduces range).
    • Locate where an intruder is most likely to walk across the coverage pattern; aim inward toward a solid reference point (a wall). Corner mounting often gives the best coverage.
    • Mounting height: 6.5 to 7.5 ft, on a solid, vibration-free surface.
    • To avoid detecting climbing pets, do NOT mount within 6.5 ft. of furniture, stairs, etc.
    • Avoid direct sunlight, windows, fireplaces, heat/cool sources, and high-humidity areas.
    • Avoid metal duct work or large metallic surfaces that may shield RF signals.
    • DO NOT TILT the sensor down — this negatively affects pet immunity.

    Installation

    1. Detach the backplate: remove the locking screw (if installed), push in the retainer tab, and lift the front away from the backplate.
    2. Mounting without the swivel bracket: locate the 9 dimple marks inside the backplate, choose at least 2, and drill out with a 1/8" bit (do not leave excess open holes). To use the swivel bracket instead: attach the bracket base to the wall, remove the blanking plug from the backplate, align the hole over the bracket, and install the locking disc with the provided screw (don't tighten until angle/direction are set).
    3. Enroll the sensor using either the M1 Keypad or ElkRP software (see below), then insert the batteries and press the tamper switch arm when prompted.

    Sensor Enrollment via M1 Keypad

    1. Make sure the M1XRFTW Transceiver is powered up and enrolled with the M1 Control.
    2. Enter M1 Keypad Installer Programming → Menu 14: Wireless Setup.
    3. Scroll to sub-menu 3: Learn Sel Wireless Transmtr, press Select.
    4. Select an unassigned WZone and press Learn to enroll.
    5. Insert batteries and press the tamper switch when prompted; the keypad will chime and briefly display the sensor's 6-digit TXID upon success.
    6. Set the Loop ID to "2" for the 6030P (this is critical — the M1 default is Loop "0").
    7. Set Supervision Type to "1" (Normal Supervision) so the control expects a 64-minute supervisory check-in.
    8. Do NOT enable PIR Auto Restore — the 6030P transmits its own restore.
    9. Program the Zone Definition via Keypad Menu 5.

    Sensor Enrollment via ElkRP

    Create/expand a Wireless Zone Group (groups of 16 zones; the first M1XRFTW must be enrolled at databus address 2), enter the sensor's TXID and Loop = 2, enable the zone, set Supervision Type to "1", and skip/disable PIR Auto Restore. Click Save and repeat for each additional sensor.

    Walk Test

    After enrolling and setting DIP switches, snapping the sensor into the housing activates Walk Test mode for 10 minutes. Walk slowly across the coverage zones; the White LED should blip once followed by a quick blink of the Green RF ACK LED on motion detection. Two walk-test methods: (1) opening/closing the housing to trip the tamper switch (ends after 10 min.), or (2) System Walk Test via Keypad User Menu 3 (press * to exit).

    RF Acknowledge (Green/Org-Red) LED

    Green blink = transmission successfully acknowledged by the control/transceiver. Org/Red blink = transmission failed after multiple attempts — check that the control and M1XRFTW are powered and enrolled, verify sensor enrollment, and consider relocating the sensor or adding a remote transceiver if distance is the issue.

    Batteries

    Holds 2 x CR123A lithium batteries; estimated service life 5–7 years with Sleep Cycle set to Long. Battery #1 (lower) is supervised for low voltage and is the primary power source for critical functions. Battery #2 (upper) is unsupervised and is the sole power source for the white Security/Convenience LED — install both. To clear a low-battery condition, remove old batteries, wait at least 20 seconds, install fresh batteries, and trip the sensor a couple of times.

    Battery warning: risk of fire, explosion, and burns. Do not recharge or disassemble; do not incinerate or expose to heat above 212°F (100°C).

    Limitations

    PIR detectors provide beam-based (not volumetric) coverage and cannot detect motion behind walls, closed doors, or windows. The radio only provides communications, not motion sensing. The 6030P is not a life-safety device, and the Security/Convenience Light is not a substitute for a visual notification appliance.

    Limited Warranty

    Warranted free from defects and workmanship for 2 years from date of manufacture. Batteries used with wireless devices are not warranted.
