    Overview

    The ELK-6021 is an exceptionally thin wireless window sensor designed primarily for non-metal surfaces, ideal for double-hung or casement style wood/vinyl windows. It is nearly invisible when installed properly. It contains a built-in reed switch and reports a unique TXID identifier to the transceiver, and is compatible with wireless transceivers and controls that accept Elk's two-way technology such as the ELK-M1XRFTW. The 6021 features Elk's two-way technology, capable of on-demand status updates and good battery life.

    Note: for longer range requirements, Elk also offers the ELK-6020 Slim-Line and ELK-6022 Universal sensors.

    Mounting

    Install within 100 ft. of the wireless receiver (open-air range is greater, but building obstacles reduce effective range). Never mount on metal surfaces — the sensor's extremely low profile makes signal transmission especially sensitive to metal interference. Always test sensors in their intended location before permanent mounting; range can often be improved by slightly moving or reorienting the sensor.

    Mounting surface should be clean, dry, and flat — avoid metal and high-moisture/humidity areas. Separate the base from the sensor and magnet by inserting a small flat screwdriver tip in the end slot, install the battery, and enroll the sensor. For permanent mounting, use the supplied adhesive pads (clean surfaces first; allow up to 24 hrs for full adhesive bond — not for UL Listed installations) or #4 flathead sheet metal screws. Align the marks on both backplates and ensure the maximum gap (3/8") is not exceeded.

    Enrolling from the M1 Keypad

    1. Enter M1 Keypad Installer Programming → Menu 14: Wireless Setup.
    2. Press right arrow, scroll to Sub-Menu 3: Learn Sel WirelessTransmtr.
    3. Press right arrow, then select an available wireless zone.
    4. Press right arrow to Learn (enroll) a new sensor.
    5. Insert the battery into the 6021 when prompted "Push Transmitter Button" (if a battery is already installed, remove it, wait 5 seconds, then reinsert).
    6. Upon successful enrollment, the keypad chimes and briefly displays the 6-digit TXID code. If it fails, remove and reinsert the battery after 5 seconds and repeat.
    7. Rapid-Enroll auto-advances to the next wireless zone — repeat step 5 for each additional sensor. Press the ELK key once to end Rapid-Enroll after all sensors are enrolled.
    8. Set the Loop Number: the 6021's built-in reed switch uses Loop 2, but the default M1 Loop 0 recognizes it without changes.
    9. Supervision should be set to 1=Normal "Burg" (the factory default for all wireless zones).

    After enrollment, go to Menu 5: Zone Definitions to name each sensor and set its zone type/options.

    Enrolling from ElkRP Software

    1. Launch ElkRP and open the Customer Account file.
    2. If no wireless zones exist, right-click Zones (Inputs) → New Wireless Zones, check the desired group, click OK. (M1XRFTW wireless zones must start at Zone 17/Group 2; the last wireless zone cannot exceed Zone 160/Group 10 — max 144 wireless sensors. Avoid conflicts with future Hardwired Zone Expanders below data bus address 10.)
    3. Double-click the new Wireless Group, then each zone to define name, type, and options.
    4. Double-click Wireless Setup, click the Transmitters tab, double-click a zone, check Enabled, set Supervision type (0=Non-Supervised for keyfobs, 1=Normal Burg, 2=Fire), enter the sensor's TXID from its label, set Loop to 2 (built-in reed switch), then Save. Repeat for each zone/sensor.

    Operational Testing

    A two-color LED behind the cover blinks to indicate status (hard to see in direct sunlight):

    • Green blink — signal successfully transmitted and acknowledged by the transceiver.
    • Red blink — communication failed after repeated attempts, most likely due to distance. Verify the transceiver is on, test another sensor to confirm the transceiver works, then retest the failed sensor at closer range. If it works closer, either relocate the transceiver or add a remote transceiver to cover that area.

    Per UL, a complete test of the security system and all zones should be performed weekly using the M1 Keypad Menu 3 — Walktest Area.

    Battery Installation & Replacement

    A low-battery signal is reported when the battery needs replacement. Remove the sensor cover by inserting a small coin or screwdriver edge in the end slot, observe correct polarity (positive side up) without bending the metal battery holder leafs, and test sensor operation with the panel.

    Battery warning: Risk of fire, explosion, and burns. Do not recharge or disassemble. Do not incinerate or expose to heat above 212°F (100°C). Keep away from children.

    Warranted free from defects in materials and workmanship for 2 years from date of manufacture. Batteries used with wireless devices are not warranted.
