ELK-1RT — Speaker & Stainless Steel Tamper-Resistant Enclosure Instructions

Overview

The ELK-1RT is a rugged 30 Watt, 8 Ohm siren speaker mounted in a tamper-resistant, stainless steel "No Rust" enclosure. The stainless steel naturally reflects its mounting surface and blends easily with residential or commercial buildings. Related products include the ELK-150RT (with built-in siren) and the ELK-SL1 Strobe Light, which can be added to the enclosure.

Installation Instructions

1. Using the backplate as a template, mark and drill the 4 mounting holes plus the wire/conduit entry hole. Insert the four 1/4" x 1" wall anchors, then partially install the top two #10 x 1" screws. Install the top edge of the backplate at least 1" below any soffit or building overhang.
2. Route the wire or conduit through the entry hole and hang the backplate on the top screws. Install the remaining two screws and tighten all four.
3. Temporarily hang the speaker on the backplate by aligning the slotted insert on the top edge of the speaker with the recessed tab on the bottom edge of the backplate. Press the speaker onto the tab.
4. Connect the two white tamper-switch wires to a 24-hour closed loop on the control panel (the switches are already wired in series). Connect the red and black speaker wires to an 18 AWG (minimum) cable run back to the siren driver on the control panel.
5. Move the speaker from its hanging position to its final mount by aligning its top/bottom slots with the 1/2" tabs on the backplate. Press firmly and tuck all loose wires into the backplate and behind the speaker (away from the top inside corners).
6. Slide the front cover over the speaker, then lift upward slightly to engage the two tabs inside the cover with the "U"-shaped slots on the backplate's top edges. Lower the cover until the tabs rest in the slots, push the cover toward the wall, then lift up to lock the tabs into place. Thread the 1/4-20 hex bolt into the dimpled hole on the bottom of the cover and tighten until secure.
7. The front cover tamper switch is closed by the cover during the final 3–4 full turns of the hex bolt. Test the switch operation with a continuity meter if possible.
