Overview

The ELK-150RT is a self-contained siren housed in a tampered "No Rust" stainless steel enclosure. It features two sealed reed tamper switches — one on the back plate and one on the front cover — pre-wired in series and normally closed. The ELK-150RT produces two distinct sounds from a single input trigger via its ComboTrigger™ feature, and its MilliMiser™ option reduces current draw further for controls with limited alarm output power. The stainless steel exterior blends with most residential and commercial buildings.

Installation Steps

1. Using the backplate as a template, mark and drill the 4 mounting holes and the wire/conduit entry hole. Install the top two #10 x 1" screws partially into the (4) 1/4 x 1" wall anchors.
2. Route the wire or conduit through the hole provided and hang the backplate on the top screws; install and tighten the remaining two screws.
3. Temporarily hang the siren/speaker on the backplate by aligning the slotted insert on the top edge of the siren with the 1/2" recessed tab on the bottom edge of the backplate. Press siren onto tab.
4. Connect the two white wires from the tamper switches to a 24-hour closed loop on the control panel (switches are already connected in series).
5. Connect the Red (+) and Black (-) wires from the siren to the control's alarm output. Recommended wire gauge from control is 18 AWG.
6. Move the siren/speaker from its hanging position to its final mount, aligning top/bottom slots with the 1/2" tabs on the backplate. Press firmly.
7. Slide the front cover over the speaker, lift to engage tabs in the "U" shaped slots, lower and push toward wall, then lift to lock. Thread the 1/4-20 hex bolt into the hole at the bottom of the cover and tighten.
8. The front cover tamper switch is pressed closed by the front cover during the final 3-4 full turns of the hex bolt. Test operation with a continuity meter if possible.

Wiring Notes

• NEG (-) Black = Negative terminal from control's alarm output.
• YELP (+) Red = Positive terminal from control's alarm output.
• The siren produces a Yelp sound from a constant voltage input; a pulsed voltage input produces a low pitch rise (ComboTrigger™), allowing two sounds from a single alarm output with a pulse option.
• For controls with separate BURG and FIRE alarm outputs: connect the Red wire to each output, then program one output for Steady (Burg) and the other for Pulsing (Fire). Connect the Black wire to Neg.
• The siren is factory set for maximum loudness and current draw. To lower current draw/loudness, remove the four screws and cover from the back, find the Red speaker wire soldered to the circuit board, cut it approximately 3" back, and splice it (using the provided wire nut) to the unused Yellow wire soldered to the board.
