    Datasheet for the Ecolink TBZ500 Z-Wave Plus Thermostat — a wireless Z-Wave thermostat for standard gas/electric and heat pump HVAC systems, supporting both 24VAC and battery operation.

    Overview

    The TBZ500 is designed to control most HVAC systems, including standard gas/electric type and heat pump systems. It supports both 24VAC and battery operation, making it well-suited for home automation and pro security applications where remote monitoring is preferred.

    • Firmware update via Z-Wave® OTA
    • Standard gas/electric HVAC systems: 2-stage heating, 2-stage cooling
    • Heat pump HVAC systems: 3-stage heating, 2-stage cooling
    • Fan system selectable for gas or electric heat systems
    • Heat pump changeover valve (reversing valve) selectable for heat or cool changeover (O or B output)
    • Emergency Heat mode selectable from the thermostat in Heat Pump mode
    • Compressor short-cycle protection delay of 5 minutes (adjustable)
    • Backlit fixed 128-segment B/W LCD with 7-character message bar

    Power

    • Battery: 24-month battery life with four (4) AA alkaline batteries; low battery indication.
    • Powered: hardwired 24VAC (requires both 24VAC "R" and 24VAC common "C" wires from the HVAC system).

    Wiring

    Uses standard thermostat connections: C, RC, RH, W1, W2/O, Y1, Y2, G — 18 AWG wire.

    • The C wire is not required for battery operation, but is required for 24VAC operation.
    • For single-transformer systems, connect the R wire to either the RC or RH terminal — they're connected via a factory-installed jumper.
    • For systems with separate heating and cooling transformers, connect Heating R to RH and Cooling R to RC, and remove the factory-installed RC/RH jumper.

    Sensors & Fan Control

    • Built-in temperature/humidity sensor, plus support for a Z-Wave® remote temperature sensor.
    • Fan can be configured to On or Auto (controlled by the HVAC system).
