Interlogix SafeAir 250-CO — Carbon Monoxide Detector Data Sheet

Data sheet for the Interlogix SafeAir™ 250-CO — a 12/24VDC hardwired carbon monoxide detector with SafeTest™ functional testing, designed to interface with any UL 985/864 listed intrusion or fire alarm system.

Overview

The SafeAir 250-CO uses an electro-chemical CO sensor with an on-board microprocessor that tracks CO levels over time, self-adjusts for environmental changes, and compensates for sensitivity drift over its service life. It connects to a Class 2 output from a control panel or auxiliary power supply and reports alarm and trouble conditions via relay to the panel and (if monitored) the central station.

Recommended Installation Locations

Install per NFPA 720. Wall-mounted detectors: at least 5 ft. (1.5 m) up from the floor. Ceiling-mounted: at least 1 ft. (0.3 m) from any wall.

• Within 10 ft. (3 m) of all sleeping areas, including hotel/dorm rooms
• Environments between 32–104°F (0–40°C), 0–90% relative humidity, noncondensing
• Residential: in every bedroom, within 10 ft. of sleeping areas, and on each level (minimum one detector outside sleeping areas)
• Commercial: on every habitable level per engineering evaluation; any area required by local codes/AHJ; firm, permanent surfaces

Do NOT install: within 10 ft. (3 m) of a fuel-burning appliance; near air conditioners, heating registers, or ventilation sources; where furniture/draperies obstruct airflow; or in a recessed area.

Operation

• SafeTest functional test: Press and hold TEST/HUSH for 5–10 seconds to enter SafeTest mode, then direct UL-classified CO test spray at the sensor port to verify alarm activation (temporal-4 sounder + red LED). Press and hold again to exit.
• Sounder: 85 dB temporal-4 pattern — four beeps, five-second rest, repeat.
• TEST/HUSH button: Tests the alarm or silences an active alarm for five minutes (does not silence above 350 ppm CO).
• End-of-life indicator: Flashing green LED plus intermittent sounder chirps; silence with TEST/HUSH. Reports trouble to the panel as the sensor approaches end-of-life.
• Common trouble relay: Opens on lost power, sensor cell trouble, or cell end-of-life.

Installation & Wiring

Four-wire device requiring a Class 2 output from a control panel or resettable auxiliary power supply listed to UL 985 or 864. All wiring must conform to NFPA 70 (National Electric Code), UL 2075, NFPA 720, and local codes, using 14–22 AWG wire. Supports single-device/single-zone, multiple-devices/single-zone, and multiple-devices/separate alarm-trouble-zone wiring configurations (see full wiring diagrams in the downloadable PDF).

Warning: Connect the CO detector only to a zone dedicated exclusively to CO detection, monitored 24 hours a day. Do not connect to an initiating circuit with fire or security devices. Failure to properly install, test, and maintain a CO detector may result in loss of life.
