DataComm Adjustable Speaker Mount (60-0036) — Installation Instructions

Instruction/Installation Sheet for the DataComm Adjustable Speaker Mount (Part #60-0036) — a wall or ceiling speaker bracket with an adjustable link section for angle adjustment, rated for speakers up to nine pounds.

Safety Warnings

• Do not install without first reading all instructions.
• Make sure the mounting surface is structurally sound.
• Never exceed the maximum speaker weight limit of nine pounds (9 lbs.).
• Tighten screws firmly, but do not over-tighten.
• Install and use only as indicated in DataComm's product instruction sheets.

Installing the Mounting Plate to Wall or Ceiling

1. Test fit: Before drilling, hold your speaker and the Mounting Plate together in the desired location and angle to confirm clearance from surrounding objects and walls. Once confirmed, hold the Mounting Plate against the wall in its final position and mark the screw hole locations with a pen or pencil.
2. Drill: Drill two holes at the marked screw hole locations, based on your surface type:
   • Type A — Hollow drywall, no stud: use a 5/16" bit.
   • Type B — Concrete or brick: use a 5/16" masonry bit.
   • Type C — Solid wood or wood stud in drywall: use a 1/8" bit, then skip Step 3 and go straight to Step 4.
3. Insert plastic anchors (Types A/B only): gently tap the plastic anchors into the holes with a hammer until flush with the wall; be careful not to break or deform them.
4. Attach the Mounting Plate: using a Phillips screwdriver and two #12 x 1 3/4" Self-Tapping Screws, screw the Mounting Plate onto the wall.
5. Step 5A – Wall installations only: insert the Adjustable Link Section onto the Mounting Plate and tighten the Allen screw with the Allen Wrench to secure it.
   Step 5B – Ceiling installations only: first connect the Speaker Bracket Extension to the Mounting Plate and tighten its set screw enough to support the speaker's weight, then insert the Adjustable Link Section onto the Speaker Bracket Extension and tighten the Allen screw to secure it.

For ceiling installations, use the Speaker Bracket Extension for additional clearance. Do NOT use the Speaker Bracket Extension for wall installations.

Installing the Speaker Post to Your Speaker (Step 6)

Choose the mounting method matching your speaker type. The kit includes multiple screw types — you won't use all of them for any single installation.

• Type A — Speakers with threaded insert: test fit machine screws to find the correct one for your speaker. If it doesn't tighten down fully, use the plastic washer under the screw head as a spacer.
• Type B — Most BOSE® satellite speakers: use the M5 x 20mm Machine Screw with the plastic washer as a spacer. For BOSE® Lifestyle® 20 or Jewel Cube™, use the M4 x 15mm Machine Screw with the plastic washer. The plastic washer MUST be used between the Speaker Post and speaker to prevent the threaded insert from pulling out.
• Type C — Speakers with a keyhole slot: pre-assemble the Post Mount using the 8-32 5/8" Machine Screw and 8-32 Round Keyhole Nut. Insert into the speaker's keyhole opening and slide upward into the slot. Pull back gently while tightening the machine screw. If it doesn't tighten fully, add the plastic washer under the screw head as a spacer.
• Type D — Wood cabinet speakers with no factory holes: use the additional Mounting Plate. Mark the desired location on the back of the speaker and drill two pilot holes (no more than ½" deep) with a 3/32" bit. Screw the Mounting Plate to the back of the speaker with #12 x 3/4" Self-Tapping Screws. Do not over-tighten — this strips the hole and the speaker could fall off. Do not use this method on speakers over four pounds (4 lbs.).
• Type E — Speakers with two threaded inserts: use the additional Mounting Plate. Test fit machine screws to find the correct ones for your speaker's threaded inserts, then attach the Mounting Plate to the back of the speaker with the two correct screws.

7. Once the Speaker Post (or additional Mounting Plate) is securely connected to your speaker, attach it to the Adjustable Link Section of the Speaker Mount. Use the Allen Wrench to tighten the Allen screw securing the speaker to the mount.
8. To adjust the speaker angle, use the Allen Wrench to loosen the joint at the center of the Adjustable Link Section, adjust to the desired angle, then re-tighten the joint to hold the speaker in place.

Important: If the joint is not securely tightened, the speaker will sag over time. The speaker will also sag if the nine-pound (9 lbs.) weight limit is exceeded. This Speaker Mount is not designed for speakers exceeding nine pounds.
