    Installation instructions for the Cool Components Advanced Ventilation Controller (TC-AVC) — a programmable high-voltage thermostat used to control ventilation fans for closets, equipment racks, and enclosures.

    WARNING — THIS IS A HIGH VOLTAGE PRODUCT ONLY (110/220V AC). Do NOT connect to low voltage devices — all relays output 110/220V AC. Connecting low voltage devices/relays will damage the equipment.

    General Overview

    This is purely a high-voltage AC controller — there are no low-voltage contacts. While there are Low/Medium/High indicators, this is not a speed controller; regardless of which relays are used, the fan operates at a single speed. The unit uses 5 relays: three assigned to fan modes, two to alarm functions.

    • Relay 1 triggers at the primary user-defined setpoint
    • Relay 2 triggers ~6°F above the primary setpoint
    • Relay 3 triggers ~15°F above the primary setpoint
    • Relay 4 / Alarm 1 triggers at the alarm setpoint
    • Relay 5 / Alarm 2 triggers 10°F above the alarm setpoint

    Standard application: a fan connects to the primary (#1) relay; other relays unused. Low-voltage fans are connected via an outlet fed through and automated by the controller.

    Advanced applications: relays can trigger separate banks of fans at increasing temperature thresholds, or drive high-voltage alarms/strobes for a second setpoint tier.

    Buttons

    • MODE — used for programming the alarm feature
    • FAN — toggles between Auto and Manual test modes; cycles through Low (Relay 1) / Med (Relay 2) / High (Relay 3), with Auto = normal operation, Fail = Alarm 1, Fail (flashing) = Alarm 2

    Note: the "Low" relay may not turn off if the setpoint is lower than ambient temperature.

    Locating the Unit

    Install where it won't be confused with HVAC thermostats — ideally inside electronic closets, or mounted on the front/back of an equipment rack. If using the built-in temperature sensor, avoid locations with AC/heat blowing directly on the unit, direct sunlight, or inaccurate ambient readings. For wall/closet applications, install in a single-gang electrical box turned sideways.

    Connecting the Unit

    This unit must only be connected by a qualified, licensed electrician. Mis-wiring will cause serious injury and/or damage the unit. Check and follow all local and applicable building codes.

    • Incoming power: 110/120V — connect Line Voltage to L1 & L2 (typically black/hot to L1, white/neutral to L2). No ground required. 220/240V — connect power feeds to L1 & L2.
    • Fan wiring: for a single fan, connect the hot lead to COOL 1 and neutral to L2. For multiple independently-triggered fans, connect each fan's hot wire to its corresponding relay (Cool 2 = Relay 2, turns on ~6°F above setpoint; Cool 3 = Relay 3, ~15°F above setpoint).
    • Alarm wiring: high-voltage alarms/buzzers/strobes only — never low-voltage contact closures. Connect the primary alarm to Alarm 1 and the secondary/critical alarm (activated ~10°F above the Alarm setpoint) to Alarm 2. All neutral wires connect together and run to L2.
    • External sensor (optional): plugs into the connector in the upper-left corner on the back of the unit (labeled 'A'). If not connected, the internal sensor is used by default. Connect prior to powering up — the unit auto-recognizes it. Can be extended using 22ga 2-conductor wire (22/2) following low-voltage wiring practices. Typically used for remote installs (e.g. projector enclosures).

    Configuring & Programming

    • Primary setpoint: press the Up or Down button to enter programming mode (flashing display); select the desired setpoint. The unit exits programming mode automatically after 3 seconds. The first relay turns on at the setpoint and turns off at 2°F below it to prevent frequent cycling.
    • Alarm programming: press the Mode button to enter programming mode, then select the alarm setting with Up/Down. Exits after 5 seconds of inactivity.
    • Fan 2 & 3 relays turn on at points relative to the primary setpoint and cannot be adjusted independently; the same is true for Alarm 2 relative to the alarm setpoint.
    • Display units: press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
