Installation instructions for the Chief RPMA/RPMB/RPMC Series Elite Projector Mounts.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the Chief RPMA/RPMB/RPMC Series Elite Projector Mounts — ceiling/pole projector mounting systems supporting up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) with adjustable pitch, roll, and yaw.

    Overview

Throughout this manual, "RPMX" designates all models covered (RPMA, RPMB, and RPMC). The RPMX mount attaches an optional Chief "SLM" Series interface bracket to hold the projector, and is designed to be mounted in one of four ways: to a 1-1/2" NPT/NPSM threaded extension column; to double 2"x4" wood stud cross bracing between ceiling joists (max. 5/8" drywall covering); to a concrete ceiling with a minimum 8" thickness (max. 5/8" drywall covering); or suspended from four #10-24 threaded rods secured to overhead structural members.

    Safety Warnings

    • WARNING: Exceeding the weight capacity can result in serious personal injury or damage to equipment. The combined weight of all components attached to the RPMX must not exceed 50 lbs (22.7 kg). The weight capacity may also be limited by the lowest weight capacity of any other mounting system/accessory in the chain.
    • WARNING: Failure to provide adequate structural strength can result in serious injury or damage. The supporting structure must support five times the combined weight of all attached equipment — reinforce as required before installing.
    • WARNING: Use this mounting system only for its intended use. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer. Never operate a damaged mount — return it for examination and repair. Do not use outdoors.

    RPMA/RPMB/RPMC may be used with listed Chief models WM110S, WM120S, WM130S, WM210S, WM220S, WM230S, WM240S, WM210SI, WM220SI, WM230SI, WM240SI, SL220, and LSB101 (not included).

    Installation — Threaded Extension Column

    1. Install a 1-1/2" NPT or NPSM threaded extension column (Schedule 40, 0.154" minimum thickness steel or aluminum — ASTM B221) into the threaded collar until tight, with a minimum of four threads engaged.
    2. Thread the RPMX mount onto the column until hand tight.
    3. Turn the RPMX clockwise or counter-clockwise until the front of the mount faces the target. The set-screw access hole should point directly at the target, or 180° away from it.
    4. Secure the RPMX to the pipe by turning the set screw with a 5/32" hex key until tight. CAUTION: Do not overtighten — this can damage the pipe threads.
    5. Turn the security screw (accessed from the bottom of the RPMX) with a Phillips screwdriver until it can no longer be seen through the set-screw access hole.

    Installation — Wood Framework (Joists)

    1. Using the RPMX as a guide, mark four mounting hole locations.
    2. Drill four 3/32" (2.4mm) dia. pilot holes, 1-3/4" (45mm) deep.
    3. Align the RPMX's four mounting holes with the pilot holes (set-screw access hole pointing at or 180° away from target).
    4. Secure the RPMX using four #10-24 x 3" Grade 2 wood screws and four 1/4" Grade 2 flat washers (not included).

    Installation — Concrete Ceiling

WARNING: Anchors (not provided) must be installed into structurally sound solid concrete. Installation into hollow block, mortar, or cracked/spalling concrete may cause anchor failure and serious injury or equipment damage. Minimum ceiling thickness: 8", maximum drywall covering: 5/8".

    1. Using the RPMX as a guide, mark four mounting hole locations on the ceiling.
    2. Drill four 1/4" (6.4mm) dia. pilot holes, 2-1/2" (64mm) deep.
    3. Align the RPMX's mounting holes with the pilot holes (set-screw access hole pointing at or 180° away from target).
    4. Install four Toggler AF6 Alligator concrete anchors by inserting into pilot holes and hammering flush with the surface.
    5. Secure the RPMX using four 1/4" Grade 2 flat washers and four #10-24" x 3" Grade 2 wood screws.

    Installation — Threaded Rod (Suspended)

    1. Secure one end of each of four #10-24 grade ASTM A307 (or better) threaded rods to the structural member (unistrut, angle, or channel — trusses/I-beams).
    2. Install four #10-24 jam nuts onto each threaded rod.
    3. Install the RPMX onto the threaded rods, inserting the rods into the four holes on top of the mount.
    4. Secure the threaded rods to the RPMX with #10-24 jam nuts and 1/4" washers.

    Projector Installation

    1. Attach the projector to the interface bracket using the hardware/instructions included with that bracket (Chief "SLM" Series interface brackets; security screws can be substituted using the All-Points Security Kit included with the bracket).
    2. Orient the projector with the interface bracket.
    3. Lift the projector so the screws with thumb nuts align with the mounting slots in the mount base.
    4. Slide the projector with mounting bracket into the mounting slots until the screws seat against the back of the slots.
    5. Verify the mounting screws are properly seated in the mounting slots.
    6. Move the locking lever to "LOCKED."
    7. Insert a key into the lock and turn to secure the projector to the RPMX.
    8. Route all cables as required.

WARNING: Improper installation can lead to the projector falling, resulting in serious injury or equipment damage. Make certain the mounting slots slide fully under the thumb screws and screws are seated at the back of the slots.

    Adjustments

The RPMX can be adjusted for pitch (vertical elevation), roll (horizontal tilt), and yaw (rotation). WARNING: Over-loosening or removal of hardware may cause injury or equipment damage — loosen only enough to allow necessary movement.

    Yaw Adjustment (Rotation)

    1. Loosen the YAW adjustment locking screw with a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
    2. Turn the YAW micro-adjustment screw right or left until the image is properly aligned on the target.
    3. Tighten the YAW adjustment locking screw.

    Pitch Adjustment (Vertical Elevation)

    1. Loosen the PITCH adjustment locking screw.
    2. Turn the PITCH micro-adjustment screw right or left until the image is properly aligned on the target.
    3. Tighten the PITCH adjustment locking screw.

    Roll Adjustment (Horizontal Tilt)

    1. Loosen the ROLL adjustment locking screw.
    2. Turn the ROLL micro-adjustment screw right or left until the image is properly aligned on the target.
    3. Tighten the ROLL adjustment locking screw.

    Tools Required

Phillips screwdriver, hex-head wrench (5/32" security, included), open-ended wrench, hammer, drill (3/32" bit for wood, 1/4" bit for concrete).
