Chief RMF2 / RLF2 / RXF2 Universal Fixed Mounts — Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the Chief RMF2, RLF2, and RXF2 Universal Fixed Mounts — flat-panel display wall mounts from Chief Manufacturing (Milestone AV Technologies).

Important Warnings

• Structural strength: The wall structure must support five times the combined weight of all attached equipment. Reinforce the structure as needed before installing. The wall may have a maximum drywall thickness of 5/8" (1.6cm).
• Weight capacity: Combined weight of all attached components must not exceed 125 lbs (56.7 kg) for the RMF2 and RLF2, or 175 lbs (79.4 kg) for the RXF2. Exceeding this can cause mount collapse and injury.
• Electrical shock hazard: Always confirm the area behind the mounting surface is free of electrical wires and cables before drilling or installing fasteners.
• Explosion/fire hazard: Always confirm the area behind the mounting surface is free of gas, water, waste, or other plumbing before cutting, drilling, or installing fasteners.
• Display weight: Ensure the display can be safely lifted and maneuvered before mounting it — displays can be very heavy.
• Bracket placement: Interface brackets must be hung on opposite sides of the center tab on the wall plate.

Minimum Hole Pattern Size

100mm x 100mm for the RMF2, and 200mm x 200mm for the RLF2 and RXF2.

Tools Required

• 7/32" (5.5mm) drill bit
• 5/16" (7.9mm) drill bit
• 1/2" (12.7mm) wrench
• #2 Phillips screwdriver

Parts Included

• Wall plate (A) — 1
• Vertical brackets (B) — 2
• Hardware bag (F) — 1, containing hex head cap screws, flat washers, concrete anchors, and a range of machine screws (M4–M8 in various lengths), universal washers, and spacers
• Quantities for the hex screw/washer/anchor kit: 4 for the RMF2 and RLF2, 6 for the RXF2

Installing the Wall Plate — Wood Studs

1. Unfold the wall plate (A) to prepare it for mounting.
2. Level the wall plate and mark the locations of the pilot holes. Note: The RMF2 must be installed on two 16" studs. The RLF2 can be installed on 16" studs (inner holes) or 24" studs (outer holes). The RXF2 can be mounted over two or three 16" studs, or two 24" studs — if mounting to three 16" studs, use the outer holes and center holes on all three studs. The vertical center of the display will align with the center line indicated on labels below each hinge — keep this in mind when determining mounting location.
3. Drill 7/32" (5.5mm) diameter pilot holes into the wood studs at the marked locations.
4. Install 5/16 x 2-1/2" hex head cap screws (C) through four flat washers (D), the wall plate (A), and into the wood studs.

Installing the Wall Plate — Concrete, Concrete Block, or Brick

1. Unfold the wall plate (A) to prepare it for mounting.
2. Level the wall plate and mark pilot hole locations at the desired mounting spot. For the RLF2, either the inner or outer four holes may be used. For the RXF2, use the outer four holes plus the two middle holes.
3. Drill 5/16" (7.9mm) diameter pilot holes into the wall at the marked locations, at least 2-1/2 inches deep.
4. Install four or six concrete anchors (E) into the drilled holes, tapping them in with a hammer.
5. Using a 1/2" (12.7mm) wrench, install screws (C) through flat washers (D), the wall plate (A), and into the concrete anchors (E).

Installing Brackets to the Display

1. Lay the display face-down on a protective surface.
2. Select the correct screw diameter (FA–FO: 8mm, 6mm, 5mm, or 4mm) by comparing hardware to the display's mounting holes. Using an improperly-sized screw can damage the display.
3. Select spacers: if the mounting holes are not recessed and both brackets (B) can lay flat against the display, no spacers are needed. If holes are recessed or protrusions prevent the brackets from lying flat, use spacers (FP or FQ) — stack them if additional depth is required.
4. Select screw length: by hand, insert the shortest screw of the selected diameter through the bracket, universal washer (FS), and spacer (if required) into the display mounting hole without threading it in. The base of the screw head should protrude above the flat washer by a distance equal to or greater than the screw diameter — select a longer screw if needed, but use the shortest one that satisfies this.
5. Place brackets (B) on the display with upper hooks toward the top of the display, positioned as close to the center of the display's back as possible (bracket center is marked by the diamond-shaped hole).
6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, install the selected screws through the universal washers, brackets, and spacers into the display.
7. Tighten all screws, using all applicable display mounting holes (4, 6, or 8).

Installing the Display to the Wall Plate

1. Make sure the interface brackets are in the kickstand position by pulling down on the handles as far as possible.
2. Hang the display, with brackets (B) attached, on the upper rail of the wall plate (A) — the kickstand should engage the lower portion of the wall plate.
3. Unlock the kickstand by pushing up on the interface brackets until the kickstand rests against the wall.
4. Push up on the interface brackets further to lock the display into position against the wall.
5. Straps can be tucked behind the display, on the notch in the interface brackets, so they aren't visible to the viewer.
6. (Optional) Route a padlock or cable lock (not included) through the bottom holes on the interface bracket for additional security.

Note: When the display is on the kickstand (before final locking), that's the time to make any cable management adjustments or rear display adjustments.
