    Installation instructions for the Channel Vision DS3-Series Telephone Entry Door Intercom — a 3-gang junction box door station with integrated access control keypad, compatible with Channel Vision telephone entry controllers, Channel Vision's CAT5 Whole-House Intercom, and Panasonic KSU phone systems.

    Overview

    Understanding the Model Number

    Example: DS3-0212C

    • Compatibility suffix (letter following the 4-digit code):
      • No suffix (e.g. DS3-0212): compatible with Channel Vision telephone entry products P-0920, P-0921, C-0920, TE110.
      • C (e.g. DS3-0212C): compatible with Channel Vision's Whole-House CAT5 Intercom Hub, model P-0930.
      • P (e.g. DS3-0212P): compatible with Panasonic KXT-624 and older KSUs. Not compatible with digital Panasonic systems such as KX-TDA50, KX-TDA100, KXT-824, or KXT-848.
    • Finish code: 222 = Polished Brass, 232 = Antique Brass, 252 = Oil Rubbed Bronze, 302 = Satin Nickel
    • Camera code: 0 = No camera, 6 = Color camera (6403 model)

    Important: Double-check you've purchased the correct model number/suffix for your specific application before installing.

    Attaching the Companion Board

    The door intercom consists of two sub-assemblies that must be joined before final installation: the Companion Board (electronics) and the Door Plate (mechanical housing).

    Standard Models (DS3-XXXX / DS3-XXXXP)

    1. Remove the plastic cap covering the microphone compartment on the door plate.
    2. Place the microphone in the compartment and replace the plastic cap — the cap forms a friction fit over the microphone wires, holding them against the outer compartment wall until they exit at the base.
    3. Remove the mounting screws already attached to the bracket and use them to attach the Companion Board to the front side of the bracket, passing the screws through the board before threading into the bracket. Place 2 washers on each side between the Companion Board and mounting bracket.
    4. Connect the Telephone Entry Controller to the terminal marked on the Companion Board (see wiring sections below).

    CAT5 Intercom Models (DS3-XXXXC)

    1. Position the Companion Board onto the three mounting tabs. The microphone (attached to the back side of the board) should line up with the microphone tube on the bracket.
    2. Bend the mounting tabs to secure the Companion Board in place.
    3. Connect the speaker and button wires by sliding the small connector over the exposed pins on the Companion Board. Note: use D1 for Door 1 chime sound, D2 for Door 2 chime sound.
    4. Connect the Intercom Hub (P-0930) to the terminal on the assembly.

    Attaching & Installing the Camera (DS3-6xxx / -6xxxC / -6xxxP)

    1. Break away the perforated metal screen covering the camera opening by pushing a screwdriver through the slot on the front of the door plate, pressing near the top or bottom until the retaining tabs release.
    2. Attach the camera to the integrated mount using the provided screw, orienting the lens cone through the opening. Adjust to the desired angle and tighten to secure.
    3. Attach the pigtail cable to the rear of the camera.
    4. If needed, extend the camera's video output using a coax extension (BNC connector, not included) to reach your monitor or video distribution equipment.
    5. If needed, cut the connector off the power supply and splice in an extension with crimp connectors.

    Wiring by System Type

    Channel Vision Compatible (DS3-xxxx, no suffix)

    Interfaces with Channel Vision telephone entry controllers TE110, C-0920, P-0920, and P-0921 for audio/video communication with the front door. Using 2-conductor wire, connect the Telephone Entry Controller to the empty screw terminal block on the door station, wired to the terminals marked "TO SYS" on the controller (which itself connects to the CO line from the telephone service provider and to house telephones).

    Panasonic Compatible (DS3-xxxxP)

    A compatible replacement for the Panasonic KXT30865, interfacing with Panasonic KSU phone systems. Using 2-conductor wire, connect the door phone output of the Panasonic KSU to the empty screw terminal block on the door station, wired to the "TO SYS" terminals (KSU connects to system phones and the telephone service provider CO line).

    CAT5 Intercom Compatible (DS3-xxxxC)

    Connects to Channel Vision's Whole-House CAT5 Intercom system (P-0930 Hub + ST-2000 room stations) using CAT5 wire from the P-0930 to the 110 connector on the door station. Pressing the button on the DS3-xxxxC generates a door chime on all ST-2000 stations (up to 500ft max cable run); pressing Answer/End on a station opens communication with the door. DS3-6xxxC includes a color camera; DS3-0xxxC does not. The door station's terminals can also connect to an optional ST-C5IDS Door Strike Relay Module.

    Using the Access Keypad

    • Luminous keypad with 10 entry buttons and 2 function keys
    • Power Light: Red = standby, Green = active. If the power light does not illuminate, immediately disconnect power and check for correct polarity.
    • External orange indicator light
    • Stores up to 8 different door-opening passwords
    • Anti-tamper design; alarm activates if the unit is moved/removed
    • Door-opening time adjustable from 01–99 seconds
    • Power supply: DC 12V, 80mA standby / 110mA active

    Keypad Wiring

    • Gray, Yellow, Purple wires connect to the Door control relay's N.O. (Normally Open), COM, and N.C. (Normally Closed) dry contacts respectively
    • Black wire = exit push button
    • Red wire = Alarm output relay N.O. dry contact
    • White = orange LED wiring; Blue = anti-tamper switch COM; Orange = anti-tamper switch N.C.; Green = door detection
    • The included tamper spring installs on the switch before mounting — ensure it contacts the inner surface of the case.

    Programming the Keypad

    Default system password is 4567. Entering the system password triggers a beep and enters setting mode (times out after 20 seconds of inactivity). "#" confirms/enters; "*" clears an entry or exits.

    • Set/change one of 8 user passwords: *# [system password] # → press 3 then the password slot number 1–8 → enter the new 4-digit password → (optionally repeat for another slot) → press * to exit.
    • Set door strike time duration: *# [system password] # → press 4 then the 2-digit duration in seconds (01–99) → press * to exit.
    • Set activation mode (must be done before using user passwords): *# [system password] # → press 5, 1.
    • Open the door with a user password: simply enter the user password — power light turns green and the door unlocks.
    • Open the door with the system password: *# [system password] # 0 0.
    • Change anti-tamper switch setting: *# [system password] # → press 7 then 0 (on) or 1 (off) → press * to exit.
    • Change reader alarm setting: *# [system password] # → press 0 3 → enter 0 (on) or 1 (off).
    • Change the system password: *# [system password] # → press 8, enter new 4-digit password, # → re-enter to confirm → # (two beeps confirms success; repeated beeps means mismatch — retry).
    • Delete all 8 user passwords: *# [system password] # → press 9 3.

    Controlling Electric Locks

    The keypad provides both Normally Open (N.O.) and Normally Closed (N.C.) relay contacts, supporting either lock type:

    • Fail-Secure locks (most electric locks): remain locked when power is off, unlock when powered. Use the N.O. control contact wiring diagram — connect the lock and strike power supply across the DOOR/NO/COM terminals.
    • Fail-Safe locks (e.g. electromagnetic locks): require constant power to stay locked; unlock in the absence of power. Use the N.C. control contact wiring diagram.
    • An optional simple push button can be wired in for manual exit but can be omitted if not needed.

    Integrating the TE110DS (sold separately)

    For systems using P-0920 or P-0921: connect the keypad's "NO" and "COM DOOR" terminals to the TE110DS "Unlock Door" terminals. Triggering the keypad activates the TE110DS, allowing the door to open. The P-0920/P-0921 controller in turn connects to the telephone company CO input and to house telephones.

    Integrating the ST-C5IDS (sold separately)

    For systems using the P-0930 Hub: connect the keypad's PS and ground to the "contact" terminal on the ST-C5IDS (shown for a normally-open lock configuration). Pressing and holding the door station number on an ST-2000 room station activates the ST-C5IDS.

    Optional Keypad Functionalities

    • Anti-tamper switch: Orange/Blue contact is normally closed; closes when the tamper switch is pressed (installed) and opens when released. If using this feature, the switch must remain pressed while the keypad is installed — use the included tamper spring and ensure it contacts the back of the case.
    • Door detection wiring: Green/Black wires connect to a N.O. or N.C. reed switch; the alarm relay activates on Green-Black (ground) contact.
    • Orange LED indicator wiring: White/Black — LED lights on White-Black (ground) contact.

    Precautions

    • Verify voltage levels and polarity before connecting power to the keypad or other devices, to avoid damage.
    • Avoid sharing electric current between locks and the DS keypad to eliminate electrical interference.
    • Use proper insulation on twisted wires to avoid shorting the keypad's external relay circuitry.
    • Always disconnect power before making wiring terminations on the keypad or intercom system.

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Solution
    Unable to enter setting mode functions after entering system password Press * to terminate any in-progress setting process, then re-enter the correct format: *#XXXX# (XXXX = system password).
    Relay/door-lock doesn't activate after a valid user password The activation mode may need to be set (see "Set activation mode" above).
    Anti-tamper output stuck "on" Reset by entering a user password or entering system setting mode. Verify the tamper switch was pressed during installation.
    TE-110DS does not activate Confirm the correct key sequence: press #7 (or *7) if already speaking to the door station, or ##7 (or **7) if not. Alternatively, measure the "INTERCOM" terminal voltage: ~1VDC idle, ~6VDC while speaking, ~10VDC when TE-110DS is activated.
    TE-110DS relay activates twice from one keypad entry Lower the keypad's door strike time duration to 1 second.
