Chamberlain NDIS / NDISC — Wireless Doorbell and Intercom Manual

User manual for the Chamberlain NDIS / NDISC Wireless Doorbell and Intercom system — a whole-house wireless intercom that lets you talk to visitors at the door from any room, with a range of up to 1000 feet (300 m) over a secure 900 MHz digital radio link.

Overview & Theory of Operation

Press the call button on the doorbell to ring the intercom. To answer, press and hold the Talk button on the intercom — the call button on the doorbell doesn't need to be held to talk, but the intercom's talk button must be held down while speaking (release it to hear the response). After 30 seconds of inactivity, the call automatically times out. The doorbell and intercom can create a new network, or additional units can be added to an existing network. Compatible with various other Chamberlain wireless products.

Assembly

• Intercom: Install 4 AA alkaline batteries (not provided) and adhere the rubber pads to the bottom. A DC adapter (not provided) can also power the intercom — in this mode, the channel lights stay on continuously.
• Doorbell: Install 4 AA alkaline batteries (not provided). Lithium batteries are recommended in colder environments.

Programming a New Network

1. Press and hold the Learn button on the intercom until a beep is heard.
2. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Learn button on the doorbell until a beep is heard.
3. Wait about 30 seconds for the devices to sync, then test by pressing the doorbell's call button — the call should be heard on the intercom. Press and hold Talk to answer.

Adding to an existing network: program the new intercom into the existing network first (Learn button on new intercom, then Learn button on any existing network intercom within 10 seconds — wait up to 3.5 minutes for the secure network to establish), then repeat the process to add a new doorbell. Do not pair a new intercom and doorbell to each other before adding to the existing network, or they'll form a separate network requiring a memory clear to fix.

Mounting the Doorbell

Choose a location within range of the intercom(s). Mount with the provided screws, or with the double-sided mounting tape (recommended for metal or glass surfaces — clean the surface with the included alcohol wipe first). Secure the cover with the two large black screws.

Operation

• Talk Button: Press and hold to answer or initiate a call; release to listen for the response.
• Channel Button: Sets the intercom to one of four secure channels, or the paging channel (default — all channel lights lit). Units on a channel can only hear others on the same channel or the paging channel.
• Voice Activation Mode (VOX): Set Dipswitch #1 to UP to answer calls hands-free by speaking loudly; a short delay occurs when VOX first activates.
• Conference Mode: Set Dipswitch #2 to UP on all intercoms to be included, allowing multiple intercoms to join one conversation (all must share the same channel or paging channel).
• Monitor Mode: Press and hold the Monitor button to let other intercoms listen in on a room; press Talk to exit.
• Doorbell chime/volume/sensitivity: Dipswitch #2 selects between two chime patterns; Dipswitch #4 OFF raises doorbell volume; Dipswitch #3 OFF raises doorbell sensitivity.
• Battery life: Up to one year on 4 AA batteries under typical use; low battery triggers 2-3 beeps every ten minutes.
