    Overview

    The Cabletronix CTHDA-1P, CTHDA-2P, and CTHDA-1A are wall-mounted 1GHz multi-media drop amplifiers for CATV systems requiring two-way multi-media networking. They're low-noise amplifiers with high port-to-port isolation, 6KV surge protection on all ports, electrostatic discharge protection, and a zinc die-cast housing to prevent RFI. They can be remotely powered over coax, line-powered through an RF port, or externally powered through a dedicated "power-in" port.

    ⚠ Note to System Installer

    System installer must adhere to Article 820-40 of the NEC, which provides guidelines for proper grounding and specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

    Installation

    1. Unpacking & Handling

    Each unit ships fully assembled and factory tested. Ensure all accessories are removed from the container before discarding packing material.

    2. Mechanical Inspection

    Inspect front and rear for shipping damage. Confirm the equipment is clean and no connectors are broken, damaged, or loose. Contact 1-610-429-1511 if damage is found.

    3. Product Diagram / Ports

    • Input — coaxial RF input from CATV or satellite drop
    • Power In — direct power input from the power supply for local powering
    • Power In / RF Out — power input when using the RF distribution network as the power source

    4. Hardware Connections

    1. Mount the CTHDA securely to a wall or equipment rack using screws or bolts through the mounting tabs.
    2. Connect a 75-ohm coaxial cable with F-connectors from the RF source (CATV or satellite antenna) to the CTHDA's RF In port.
    3. Connect a 75-ohm coaxial cable with F-connectors from the CTHDA's Output port to the RF distribution network.
    4. Power the CTHDA using one of two methods:
      • Local AC outlet: run an appropriate length of RG-6 coax with quality male F connectors on each end, connect one end to the CTHDA's Power In port and the other to the included power supply, then plug the power supply into an AC outlet.
      • Remote powering via RF network: install a two-way power-passing splitter (e.g. Cabletronix HSU-2PP) in the RF distribution network near an AC outlet; connect the coax from the splitter's power-passing port to the CTHDA's Power In/RF Out port; connect the splitter's non-power-passing port to the TV/entertainment device; connect the splitter and power supply to AC power.

    5. Troubleshooting

    • Use quality multiple-shielded cables with quality radial or compression F-connectors.
    • Ensure F-connector center conductors make solid contact with the CTHDA's input, output, and power ports.
