    Overview

    Whole-home X10 and UPB control signals travel over your home's electrical wiring, but most U.S. homes are wired with two separate 120V phases (Line 1 / Line 2) from the breaker panel. Signals sent on one phase don't automatically reach devices on the other phase unless a phase-coupling device bridges them. This reference sheet documents three devices used at the breaker panel to solve phase coupling and noise-filtering problems for X10/UPB systems.

    Devices Covered

    • Simply Automated Breaker Panel Mounted Phase Coupler (p/n SAZPCB)
      • Provides both UPB and X10 signal coupling across the two panel phases
      • Mounts in a double breaker location in the panel
      • Connects across the Neutral Bus Bar (N) and Equipment Grounding Bus Bar (G)
    • Leviton Coupler Repeater (p/n LVHCA02)
      • Provides X10-only signal coupling across phases
      • Retransmits (repeats/amplifies) the signal on both phases for better reach
      • Hard-wired across a 240 VAC circuit breaker and neutral
    • X10 Pro 20 Amp Noise Filter (p/n XPXPF)
      • Blocks electrical noise on the X10 frequency generated by devices on a branch circuit, preventing interference with the rest of the X10 system
      • Noise blocking is directional — noise will not "flow" against the marked arrow on the unit
      • Also blocks X10 signals originating from any transmitter on that branch circuit from leaking into the rest of the system
      • Hard-wire across line and neutral, with a third lead going out to the protected branch circuit (load)
      • 20 amp capacity

    Installation Notes

    • All of these devices install directly inside the electrical breaker panel and involve mains wiring — installation should be performed by a licensed electrician familiar with X10/UPB whole-home control systems.
    • Wiring diagrams in the original PDF are representative (dashed lines) rather than exact schematics — always follow the manufacturer's specific installation instructions for the panel and breaker configuration in use.
