Setup, Action Button reference, tone groups, and specifications for the Aeotec Indoor Siren 6 (ZW164) Z-Wave Plus smart siren/doorbell.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Engineering specification / user reference for the Aeotec Indoor Siren 6 (ZW164), a Z-Wave Plus smart siren that can also function as a wireless doorbell chime when paired with the optional ZW166 Button.

    Important Safety Information

    • Siren 6 is for indoor use in dry locations only — do not use in damp, moist, or wet locations.
    • Warning: To prevent possible hearing damage, wear appropriate hearing protection when testing the siren — it can emit tones up to 105dB.
    • Contains small parts; keep away from children.

    Quick Start / Installation

    1. Power on Siren 6 via the included power adapter — its LED will blink slowly.
    2. Affix the mounting plate to the desired installation surface using the included 3×20mm screws or double-sided tape, then lock the unit onto the mounting plate.
    3. Set your Z-Wave gateway/hub into "add device" mode (refer to your gateway's manual).
    4. Press the Siren 6's Action Button once to begin joining. If your gateway supports S2 encryption, enter the first 5 digits of the DSK printed on the unit's housing when prompted.
    5. On success, the LED emits a solid color for 30 seconds, then turns off. If the LED keeps blinking and inclusion fails, repeat steps 2–4.

Once joined, configure and automate Siren 6 through your Z-Wave gateway/hub's own interface.

    Action Button Reference

    Action Function
Click once Send Node Info for network inclusion (or exclusion, if already joined and a controller requests removal).
Click 3× quickly Trigger pairing for Button #1 (a wireless doorbell/remote button, sold separately).
Click 4× quickly Trigger pairing for Button #2.
Click 5× quickly Trigger pairing for Button #3 (up to 3 Buttons supported total).
Click 6× quickly Send Node Info for exclusion from the network.
Long press 2–5 sec Test the sound/light of the Browse tone group.
Long press 5–10 sec Test wireless communication quality between Siren 6 and the gateway (Node 1). 3 quick flashes = good/great signal; 3 slow flashes = weak.
Long press 20+ sec Factory reset. LED flashes white 3× quickly on success.

When pairing a Button: click the Action Button the appropriate number of times, then click the Button itself 3 times quickly within the ~10-second pairing window. Removing a paired Button can only be done via your gateway's device configuration (not via the Action Button).

    Tone Groups

Siren 6 organizes its up to 30 built-in tones into 4 group types, with priority (Siren groups override Remote groups, which override Browse/Instant):

    • Browse Group: For browsing/testing built-in tones.
    • Remote Groups (×3): Triggered by a paired wireless Button, for doorbell-style use.
    • Siren Groups (×2): For security/alarm cooperation with other Z-Wave nodes.
    • Instant Group: Continuous playback without pause.

Each group's tone, volume, play mode, and light effect are customizable via your Z-Wave gateway's advanced configuration parameters — consult your specific gateway/hub's documentation for how it exposes Z-Wave configuration parameters, since exact steps vary by controller software.

    Notifications & Low-Battery Indicators

Siren 6 reports Home Security (tamper/vibration) events, Power Management (paired Button low battery) events, and its own alarm active/inactive state to the Z-Wave network. If a paired Button's battery drops below 2.8V it's flagged low; it's considered recovered above 2.9V. Each of the 3 possible Buttons has a distinct blink pattern for low-battery indication (visible on the Siren's own LED) — the lowest-numbered Button's pattern takes priority if multiple are low simultaneously.
