Installation and quick-start guide for the Aeotec Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro (model ZWA012) — a Z-Wave magnetic sensor for detecting door and window open/close events.

Important Safety Information

• Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro is intended for indoor use in dry locations only. Do not use in damp, moist, and/or wet locations.
• Contains small parts — keep away from children.
• As a magnetic sensor utilizing wireless communication, the sensor may not work optimally when mounted on a metal frame.
• Failure to follow Aeotec's recommendations may be dangerous or violate local law; the manufacturer, importer, distributor, and/or reseller are not responsible for loss or damage from not following instructions.

Optimal Placement

The sensor is designed to be mounted on the edge of a door or moving window. For best performance:

• The two parts (Magnet and Sensor) must separate when the door/window opens and come together when it closes.
• If using the thin metal magnet, make sure it is installed on the side where the notch/line marker is located — near the logo.
• Both pieces feature a line marker/notch; once installed, the two markers should align to optimize sensor performance, with a gap of no more than 20mm / 0.79" between them.
• Test the sensor at your chosen installation location before permanently mounting with the provided tape or screws.

Quick Start — Installation Steps

1. Press and hold the latch on the larger sensor part and separate the front from the back-mount plate, then pull the case off completely.
2. Remove the pull tab to engage the sensor's pre-installed batteries. The LED will flash red once, indicating it is powered on.
3. Add the sensor to your Z-Wave network:
   • If your Z-Wave gateway supports SmartStart: scan the QR code on the sensor using the gateway's app. The sensor joins your Z-Wave network automatically.
   • If your gateway does not support SmartStart:
     1. Set your Z-Wave gateway to "add device" mode (refer to the gateway's manual if unsure how).
     2. Press the sensor's Tamper Switch 3 times within 1.5 seconds — located on the lower right side, with the battery pointed forward.
     3. The sensor joins your network; its LED blinks green and red while pairing, then joins.
     4. If pairing succeeds, the LED lights solid green for 3 seconds before turning off.
     5. If pairing fails, the LED flashes red 3 times — repeat the step or contact Aeotec support.
4. After testing the sensor in your chosen installation location, affix the main sensor's back-mount plate with the provided screws or double-sided tape. Make sure the line marker is aligned toward the magnet's installation location.
5. Install the magnet opposite the main sensor. Ensure the line marker is aligned with the notch on the main sensor body.

Important: Make sure the Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro is completely enclosed over the mounting plate — otherwise the battery will drain within a few days by remaining fully active.

Once Installed
