    Installation and programming manual for the ABB-Welcome Telephone Gateway (83350-500) — connects a telephone system to the ABB-Welcome door communication system so ordinary telephones can act as audio indoor stations.

    Safety

    Warning — Electric voltage: Risk of death and fire due to electric voltage of 230 V. Work on the 230 V supply system may only be performed by authorized electricians. Disconnect the mains power supply prior to installation and/or disassembly. Low-voltage and 230 V cables must not be installed together in a flush-mounted socket — in case of a short-circuit there is a danger of a 230 V load on the low-voltage line.

    General Function

    The Telephone Gateway is an analogue subscriber of your telephone system (PBX). It includes a telephone book linking every indoor station address (bell button) to up to two phone numbers — a Primary and a Secondary number — and can also redirect all calls to a single Default phone number.

    • Default phone number — when activated, calls for all indoor stations are redirected here.
    • Primary/Secondary phone number — when activated for an indoor station, calls are redirected to that number; users can toggle between the two.
    • Direct-accept — when active, users answer a door call simply by picking up the handset; when off, users must press [1][#] after picking up. Must be deactivated if other indoor stations besides the Telephone Gateway are installed in the same apartment.
    • Admin PIN — administrator password for accessing programming mode (default: 1234).
    • Master PIN — activates/deactivates the Default phone number for all indoor stations (default: 0000).
    • Indoor Station PIN — end-user password protecting the gateway from unauthorized use (default: 1111).

    Connection

    The Telephone Gateway has terminals for the ABB-Welcome system bus and separate telephone line clamps for the PBX. The gateway is always set as master; any other indoor stations in the same apartment must be set as slave.

    System security note: Configure your telephone system so the Telephone Gateway cannot be called directly from an external line — this prevents unauthorized access by intruders. If external access is required, activate the Indoor Station PIN.

    Device Status LEDs

    • PBX connection status — steady when connected (idle or ongoing call); flashing indicates ringing.
    • ABB-Welcome bus status — steady when ready for operation with bus voltage applied; flashing indicates receiving data. Both LEDs flash together during a factory reset.
    • USB port for software update (factory use only).
    • Terminal resistor — must be OFF in pure audio installations; set ON at the last device of a branch in video or mixed audio/video installations.
    • Long-press (3s) reset button restores factory defaults: Master PIN 0000, Admin PIN 1234, Indoor Station PIN 1111, Direct-accept OFF, all phone numbers empty.

    Mounting / Installation

    The device must be installed only on mounting rails per DIN EN 50022, by an electrician following the "five safety rules" (DIN VDE 0105, EN 50110): disconnect the power, secure against reconnection, verify no voltage is present, connect to earth, and cover or barricade adjacent live parts. Use suitable personal protective equipment and only appropriate tools and measuring devices.

    Commissioning

    Required components: an ABB-Welcome system (system controller + at least one outdoor station), a PBX with an analogue input, and at least one telephone for DTMF configuration. Two commissioning options are available: via telephone (DTMF commands, below), or via internet browser and IP-Gateway 83342-xxx.

    Commissioning via Telephone (Programming Mode)

    Call the gateway via the PBX, then enter [*][*][*] Admin PIN [#] (default Admin PIN 1234) to enter programming mode.

    Everyday Operation

    After programming, users operate the system directly from a connected telephone.

    When an Indoor Station PIN is required, most commands above are prefixed with [*] Indoor station number [*] Indoor station PIN [*] before the rest of the command.

    Audible Indication Tones

    • Successful operation — confirmation tone
    • Unsuccessful operation — error tone
    • Door call waiting (repeating) — heard only when direct-accept is deactivated and other indoor stations exist in the same apartment
    • Call Divert activated (repeating) — heard after calling the gateway when Call Divert to Default number is on
    • Call Divert deactivated (repeating) — heard after calling the gateway when Call Divert is off
    • Programming Mode (repeating) — gateway is in programming mode
