    Full product manual for the ABB-Welcome IP H8304 / H8304-02 IP Actuator — a network-connected door lock controller for the Busch-Welcome IP door entry system, supporting power locks, relay locks, exit buttons, and door status detection.

    Intended Use

    As part of the Busch-Welcome IP system, the H8304 IP actuator can only be used with accessories from that system.

    Safety

    Warning — Electric Voltage: Dangerous currents flow through the body when coming into direct or indirect contact with live components, which can result in electric shock, burns, or even death.

    • Disconnect the mains power supply prior to installation and/or disassembly.
    • Permit work on the 100–240V supply system to be performed only by specialist staff.

    Product Description — Terminal Layout

    The H8304 has 8 numbered terminal connections:

    1. System power supply connector
    2. Plug-in clamps (LOCK+ … LOCK-) for door opener
    3. Connector for sensor used for door status detection
    4. Connector for exit push-button
    5. Reset button
    6. Status indicator
    7. Plug-in clamps (NC … COM … NO) for floating output, door opener
    8. LAN (PoE)

    Wiring types: Type A and Type B use the LOCK+/LOCK- plug-in clamps (power-on-to-open configuration, with Type A/B differing in polarity/jumper arrangement). Type C uses the NC/COM/NO floating relay output with an external power supply (PS) — the correct configuration is power-off-to-open, appropriate for mortise and magnetic locks where fail-safe unlocking on power loss is required. Confirm exact jumper/polarity settings against the lock manufacturer's specification before wiring.

    Mounting / Installation

    Warning — Electric Voltage: Install the device only if you have the necessary electrical engineering knowledge and experience. Incorrect installation endangers life and can cause serious property damage (e.g. fire).

    • Apply the "five safety rules" (DIN VDE 0105, EN 50110): 1) Disconnect, 2) Secure against reconnection, 3) Ensure no voltage present, 4) Connect to earth and short-circuit, 5) Cover or barricade adjacent live parts.
    • Use suitable personal protective clothing.
    • Use only suitable tools and measuring devices.
    • Check the type of supply network (TN, IT, or TT system) to secure proper grounding/protective measures.

    Commissioning

    Engineering Mode

    Pressing the reset button while the IP actuator is powered on causes the LED to flash, indicating engineering mode. On the indoor station's "Engineering setting" screen, click "IP actuator settings" to access the configuration screen. The actuator automatically exits engineering mode if no operations are performed for 5 minutes.

    Device Settings

    • Network IP Actuator: Device no. range 1–32.
    • Building IP Actuator: Block no. range 1–999; device no. range 1–32.
    • Private IP Actuator — Internal: Device no. range 1–32.
    • Private IP Actuator — External: Block no. range 1–999; Room no. range 01–63 + 01–32 (e.g. 0101); device no. range 01–02.

    Note: External and internal device types cannot be mixed within the same apartment.

    Other Settings

    • Power Lock Settings: Set output mode and unlock time on the "IP actuator settings" screen.
    • Relay Lock Settings: Set relay mode and unlock time on the "IP actuator settings" screen.
    • Report When Unlock: When enabled, each unlock event is sent to the management software.
    • Exit Button: Set the lock type for the exit button (Power lock or Relay lock).
    • Door Status Detection: Enable via checkbox; door open period is programmable 1–600 seconds.
    • Firmware Update: The actuator must exit engineering mode first. On "Engineering settings," go to "IP actuator settings" > "Firmware update," select the actuator and the update file from an SD card, then click "OK."

    FCC Compliance

    This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules — operation is subject to it not causing harmful interference and accepting any interference received. It has been tested to Class B digital device limits, providing reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. If interference to radio/TV reception occurs, try reorienting the receiving antenna, increasing separation between the equipment and receiver, connecting to a different circuit, or consulting a technician.

It is the customer's responsibility to provide and maintain a secure connection (firewalls, authentication, encryption, antivirus, etc.) and protect the device against security breaches, unauthorized access, and data theft.     Deployment & Maintenance

    • All devices work in security mode by default and are signed by a public CA at commissioning (normally the management software acts as CA).
    • Compatible mode (unencrypted, for communicating with previous-generation products) should only be used when necessary — it risks data leaks and attacks.
    • When removing a device from the system, reset it to factory settings first to remove all configuration and sensitive data.
    • Apply MAC filtering and rate limiting on the switch to prevent DoS attacks.
    • Upgrading: Firmware updates are performed via the management software using a signature file to verify authenticity/integrity. Only ABB-signed firmware is accepted.
    • Malware: Not susceptible — custom code cannot be executed; software can only be changed via signed firmware upgrade.
