    Full product manual for the ABB-free@home™ DS-3.1 and DS-6.1 Dimmer Switches — smart 120V lighting dimmers that integrate into the ABB-free@home™ Smart Home system for remote operation via mobile devices.

    Overview

    The DS-3.1 and DS-6.1 Dimmer Switches continuously dim 120V lighting devices and integrate into the ABB-free@home™ Smart Home system (requires a free@home System Access Point) for remote operation from mobile devices. A binary input allows connection of a mechanical switch to create a 3-way installation.

    • DS-3.1 (2-wire): Dims incandescent lamps up to 300W or LED lamps up to 150W. No neutral wire required.
    • DS-6.1 (3-wire): Dims incandescent lamps up to 600W or LED lamps up to 150W. Requires a neutral wire.

    Basic Operation

    • Turn ON: Short press at the top of the rocker switch.
    • Make Brighter: Long press at the top of the rocker switch.
    • Turn OFF: Short press at the bottom of the rocker switch.
    • Make Dimmer: Long press at the bottom of the rocker switch.
    • Safety-OFF Switch: Turns off power to safely replace a lamp. Because the rocker may be configured to control a different lamp than intended, verify the target wires are unpowered before replacing a lamp: turn the lamp on, then activate Safety OFF — if the lamp turns off, it's safe to replace.
    • LED Indicator: 5 LEDs display the current brightness level of the connected lighting.

    Adding the Dimmer Switch to the System

    1. Install the device per the physical installation instructions included in the original packaging. After installation, the lamp works locally right away — adding it to the free@home network is required for wireless control. If the switch was previously assigned to a different System Access Point (SysAP), it must be reset first.
    2. Open configuration: Put the SysAP into Access Point mode (press its button — indicator turns solid blue), connect to it from your device's wireless network list, then browse to 192.168.2.1 (or use the free@home App on a tablet — setup via smartphone is not supported). Log in with an account that has configuration rights.
    3. Search for the device: Go to Settings > free@home radio > Search for wireless devices. The Dimmer Switch is only discoverable within 30 minutes of being powered on — if that window has elapsed, cycle power using the Safety-OFF switch to restart the timer. Discovery and configuration read can take up to 10 minutes.
    4. Add the Dimmer to the floor plan: Go to "Devices" > "Light," drag the light bulb symbol into the floor plan, and choose the device from the list (identified by serial number or 3-digit code).
    5. Add the Rocker to the floor plan: Go to "Sensors," drag the "Rocker" element into the floor plan.
    6. Link Rocker to Light: Click the Rocker in the floor plan, select "Rocker" from the dropdown, click the "Rocker" button in the right-hand menu, then click the Light in the floor plan to create the link.

    Configuring the Dimmer Switch

    Click the lightbulb symbol to define a name for the lamp.

    Rocker Settings: Click the rocker symbol, then select "Rocker." "Binary Input" is only used when connected (i.e. in a 3-way installation).

    *If 3 Dimmer Switches are mounted next to each other in a 3-gang installation, max output power per device is reduced to 550W.

    Troubleshooting: Dimming LEDs

    Some LEDs are not easy to dim smoothly. Follow this guide in order:

    1. Right setting: In the DEVICES view, click the lamp, and in the right-hand LIST VIEW set "Type of load" to "Dimmable LED/CFL."
    2. Flickering LEDs: Some LEDs flicker near 100% — reduce the Maximum Brightness setting (day and night) to a lower value (e.g. 90%). Others flicker while dimming down — in that case increase the Minimum Brightness setting.
    3. LED remains ON: Some LEDs still emit light even after the dimmer switches them off — replace the LED. ABB recommends sending them the manufacturer, lamp type, purchase date, and seller so they can maintain an incompatible-lamp list.

    Resetting the Device

    Reset the Light Switch if it was previously assigned to a different SysAP. This removes any previous connection and enables the device to connect to a new SysAP.

    1. Press and hold the bottom of the rocker for at least 20 seconds.
    2. The bottom LED starts flashing after 10 seconds.
    3. After another 5 seconds, the LED flashes rapidly; after another 5 seconds, it turns off.
    4. Release the bottom of the rocker within the next 10 seconds.
    5. Press the bottom of the rocker — the lower LED stays on. Press again (must complete within 5 seconds of the prior steps).
    6. The device returns to factory settings and restarts.
