Instruction manual for the A&D UA-1040TBLE Voice Guided Premium Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor — a Bluetooth-enabled oscillometric monitor with voice announcements, TriCheck triple-measurement averaging, and A&D Heart Track app connectivity.

Intended Use & Key Precautions

• For adult use only — do not use on newborns or infants. Intended for home healthcare use to measure blood pressure and pulse rate for diagnosis.
• This is a medical device for lay use — consult your healthcare provider with any concerns. Report serious incidents to the manufacturer and your country's competent authority.
• Avoid extremes of temperature, humidity, direct sunlight, shock, or dust. Clean with a dry or lightly water-dampened cloth and neutral detergent only — never alcohol, benzine, or thinner.
• Not water resistant — protect from rain, sweat, and water. Measurements may be distorted near TVs, microwaves, cell phones, X-ray equipment, or other strong electrical fields.
• Do not apply the cuff to an arm with another medical device attached, an unhealed wound, or one receiving an IV drip/blood transfusion.
• People with severe circulatory deficits, a history of mastectomy/lymph node clearance, should consult a doctor before use.
• Do not self-diagnose or begin treatment based on readings — always consult your doctor.
• Do not use where flammable gases are present or in high-oxygen environments (fire/explosion risk).
• Keep wireless devices (routers, mobile/cordless phones, walkie-talkies) at least 30cm (12") away — they can interfere with the monitor.
• Avoid measuring too frequently — prolonged cuff pressure can impair circulation.
• Allow the monitor to acclimate to room temperature for about an hour before use.
• Keep away from infants — hose/cable strangulation and small-parts choking hazards.

Parts Identification

Monitor: Air Socket / Air Connector Plug, DC Jack, AC adapter plug, Button, SET Button, Volume Button, START/STOP Button, Display, Battery Compartment with Battery Cover (uses 4x 1.5V AA/R6P/LR6 batteries).

Using the Monitor

Installing/Changing Batteries

1. Remove the battery cover.
2. Insert new batteries observing correct polarity — use only R6P, LR6, or AA batteries.
3. Reattach the battery cover.

Caution: Don't mix old and new batteries. Wait at least 2 seconds after the device turns off before replacing. Remove batteries entirely if not using the device for an extended period.

Connecting the AC Adapter & Air Hose

Insert the AC adapter plug into a 120V outlet, then connect it to the DC jack on the monitor. Insert the air connector plug firmly into the air socket.

Adjusting the Clock

Press the SET button, then use the arrow buttons to set year, month, day, and hour, pressing SET after each. The next setting is pressure.

Adjusting the Pressure Setting

Default is AUTO (automatic pressurization). For faster readings, set a fixed value about 30 mmHg or more above your expected systolic pressure using the arrow buttons, then press SET to move to TriCheck mode setting.

Speaker Volume / Language / Instructions

Press the Volume button to cycle: Volume setting → Language setting → Instruction (voice) setting → standby.

• Volume: Off, 1–6, shown via the pressure bar or "oFF" on the LCD.
• Language: L1 (English), L2 (French), L3 (Spanish).
• Instructions On/Off: toggles voice announcements.

TriCheck Mode

Automatically takes three consecutive readings, one minute apart, and averages them per American Heart Association recommended methodology. Default is OFF; enable during the clock/pressure setup sequence.

Selecting the Correct Cuff Size

Check the index/proper-fit-range markings on the cuff itself; if the index falls outside the range, contact your dealer for a replacement (the cuff is a consumable). Wrap the cuff directly against bare skin, 1–2cm above the inside of the elbow, with the artery position mark aligned; avoid tight clothing under the cuff.

Taking Your Blood Pressure

Before Measuring

• For 30 minutes prior: no exercise, caffeine, alcohol, or smoking.
• Sit quietly for 5–10 minutes; ensure correct cuff size.

During Measurement

• Don't talk; sit with back straight and supported; feet flat, uncrossed.
• Rest arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level.
• Measure twice daily (morning and evening).

Standard Measurement

1. Press START/STOP — display shows all segments, then blinking zero, then begins inflating (cuff tightness is normal). Press START/STOP again to stop inflation at any time.
2. When inflation completes, deflation begins automatically; the pulse icon blinks with each heartbeat detected.
3. When complete, systolic/diastolic pressure and pulse rate display and are announced by voice; the cuff fully deflates.
4. Press START/STOP to turn off (or it auto-shuts-off after 1 minute of inactivity). The reading is stored in memory.

TriCheck Measurement

Press START/STOP to begin — takes 3 measurements 1 minute apart, showing a running average after the 2nd and 3rd readings, then stores the average of all three. Canceling before completion (via START/STOP) discards the data.

Measurement with Set (Fixed) Pressure

If re-inflation happens repeatedly, set a fixed pressure (180, 210, or 240 mmHg — about 30mmHg above your expected systolic) during setup instead of AUTO, to skip re-inflation cycles.

Measurement with Desired Systolic Pressure

If re-inflation still occurs even at 240 mmHg fixed: press and hold START/STOP while the zero blinks until a number ~30–40 mmHg above your expected systolic appears, then release to begin measurement at that pressure.

Pairing with a Mobile Device (Bluetooth®)

• Communication range is about 10m, reduced by obstructions (especially reinforced concrete) and interference from other wireless devices/microwaves.
• Download the "A&D Heart Track" app to connect. Only one device can be paired at a time; up to 10 devices can be registered (the 11th registration deletes the oldest).

Pairing Steps

1. Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device.
2. Press and hold START/STOP on the monitor until "Pr" displays, then release — the monitor is discoverable for about 1 minute.
3. If "Err 10" appears or pairing fails, remove batteries and retry.
4. Accept the pairing request in the A&D Heart Track app.

If the mobile device can't receive data at measurement time, up to 90 sets are stored temporarily and transmitted on the next successful connection (oldest data is deleted beyond 90 sets). The monitor's clock auto-syncs to the mobile device's time during pairing.

About Memory

Stores the last 90 measurements, announced by voice as displayed. Press the arrow buttons to cycle through: average of all data → average of AM measurements (4:00am–9:59am) → average of PM measurements (6:00pm–1:59am) → most recent reading → oldest reading.

Delete all memory: press both arrow buttons simultaneously until the icon blinks, confirming deletion.

Irregular Heartbeat & Cuff Inflation Meter

The monitor still provides a reading with an irregular heartbeat, flagging it with the I.H.B. symbol. The Cuff Inflation Meter on the left of the display moves up during inflation and down during deflation/measurement.

About Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the force exerted by blood against artery walls, measured in mmHg — systolic during heart contraction, diastolic during expansion. It's affected by age, weight, time of day, activity, climate, altitude, season, caffeine/alcohol, medications, stress, and tight clothing. "White coat hypertension" can elevate clinic readings vs. home readings — home self-monitoring supplements your doctor's data and provides a fuller history. Hypertension is often symptomless ("silent killer") but treatable when caught early; AHA-recommended lifestyle steps include not smoking, reducing salt/fat, maintaining weight, exercising regularly, and getting regular checkups.

Troubleshooting

If issues persist, contact your dealer — do not attempt to open or repair the device (voids warranty).

FCC Compliance

This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits for uncontrolled environments and meets FCC RF Exposure Guidelines. Recommended to keep the radiator at least 20cm from the body (excluding hands/wrists/feet/ankles). Tested and complies with FCC Part 15 Class B digital device limits. If interference to radio/TV reception occurs, try reorienting the antenna, increasing distance, using a different circuit, or consulting a technician.

Warranty

US purchasers: Monitor — 5 year warranty; Cuff — 2 year warranty. A&D Medical warrants the product free from defects in material, workmanship, and design for the applicable term from date of purchase, under normal use. Warranty covers repair or replacement at A&D's option; a repaired/replaced unit is warranted for the remainder of the original period or 90 days, whichever is longer.
