Installation instructions for the 2GIG-STVGRL1-345 Stove & Grill Guard — a contact ON/OFF sensor that alerts your security panel (and optionally your smartphone via Alarm.com) when the knob on a stove or grill is turned ON.

Overview

The 2GIG Stove & Grill Guard is compatible with 2GIG security panels, including GC2, GC3, and Vario, and with select Honeywell Vista panels. It is not intended as a life-safety device and does not replace any other safety considerations.

Box Contents

• One (1) sensor disc with adhesive strips attached
• Sleeves with magnets — 2 different sizes (the larger sleeve fits the Weber Genesis series grills; the additional sleeve fits other grills and stoves)

Pre-Installation Checks

Before installing, verify fit with the following checks:

• The stove/grill faceplate surface around the knob must be flat. If screws are present around the knob stem, the screw head diameter must be less than 0.4 in., screw head thickness less than 0.12 in., and the sensor disc must fit over the screws and be concentric with the stem.
• The hole on the faceplate around the stem must not be large enough for the sleeve to fit through and go underneath the faceplate. If needed, use a fixture (e.g. a rubber grommet with adhesive) that grips the stem tightly to prevent the sleeve from sliding underneath.
• If a trim ring or flange surrounds the knob, its inner diameter must be at least 2.2 in., and the surface inside the ring must be flat.
• The knob stem's maximum cross-section diameter must be between 0.25–0.38 in., with a length of at least 0.4 in. above the faceplate surface.
• If the knob post protrudes below the knob, its thickness must be less than 0.4 in. and must not protrude more than 0.1 in. below the bottom of the knob.
• If the inside diameter of the knob is 2.2 in. or less, position the knob so its bottom sits 0.35 in. above the faceplate, and verify there is enough engagement/stability and space to push the knob down and turn the stove/grill ON or OFF after installation.

Installation

1. Ensure the device (stove, grill, heater, etc.) is turned OFF. If possible, also turn off the gas valve and/or power source.
2. Remove the knob from the stove/grill.
3. Ensure the stove/grill surface around the knob area is clean.
4. Identify the sleeve that best fits your knob stem from the two provided.
5. Do not peel the protective backing material from the adhesive strip on the sensor disc yet. Place the sensor disc on the knob stem area and determine the ideal orientation of the disc (which may be influenced by nearby screws). Note the orientation of the inner marks on the sensor (e.g. 12 o'clock relative to the stem) and put a temporary mark on the faceplate to indicate this orientation.
6. Remove the sensor disc before installing the sleeve.
7. Install the sleeve onto the knob stem with the cavity side facing the faceplate. Align the marks on the sleeve (indicating the magnet location) with the temporary mark on the faceplate. Position the bottom of the sleeve 0.10 in. above the faceplate — the sleeve must not contact the faceplate during normal operation. (For the Weber Genesis grill, there is only one orientation for installing the larger sleeve — cavity facing outward until firmly seated on the stem.)
8. Remove the protective backing material from each adhesive strip on the sensor disc.
9. Align the inner marks on the sensor disc with the magnet on the sleeve. Ensure the sleeve is centered inside the hole of the sensor disc, with the two parts not touching each other. Mount the sensor disc to the stove/grill face.
10. Install the grill knob back onto the knob stem. If the inner diameter of the knob is not bigger than the sensor disc, do not push the knob all the way in — leave a 0.10 in. gap between the sensor disc and the bottom of the knob so the knob can freely turn ON and OFF.
11. Use your panel to program the Stove & Grill Guard (see below).

Programming

GC2/GC3 Panel

Program the Stove & Grill Guard on your 2GIG panel with the following parameters (refer to your panel's quick programming guide for the actual steps):

• Sensor Type: (23) No Response Type
• Sensor Equipment Type: Contact
• Equipment Code: (0862) 2GIG Thin Door/Window Contact (provisional code — a "Stove & Grill Guard" category will be added in a future GC2/GC3 update)
• Serial Number: Input the unique 7-digit TXID, or automatically learn in
• Equipment Age: New
• Sensor Loop Number: 2
• Dialer/Transmission Delay: Enabled
• Voice Descriptor: GAS LEFT ON (recommended; can be customized)
• Sensor Reports: Enabled
• Sensor Supervised: Disabled
• Sensor Chime: User-specified

Vario Panel

After learning in the Stove & Grill Guard (or manually enrolling via the Vario TXID), configure the zone with:

• Zone Type: Output Trigger
• Zone Sound Armed Away: Silent
• Zone Sound Armed Stay: Silent
• Zone Sound Disarmed: Chime or Silent

Honeywell Vista Panel

First enroll the Stove & Grill Guard into the panel:

• For Panel 15P, 20P, or 50P: auto-enroll the device. The LED flashes 6 times to confirm.
• For Panel 10SE or 20SE: set the address to "00," then auto-enroll. The LED shows solid green to confirm.

Then program the panel:

1. Enter [4-digit installer code], then [800], then [*56]. When "Set to Confirm?" displays, press [*].
2. When prompted to "Enter ZN Num," input a chosen zone number (09–48), then press [*].
3. Type in the ZN to display the current zone summary on screen.
4. Enter the following parameters: Zone Type (ZT) = [10]; Partition (P) = [1]; Report Code (RC) = [01] then [0010]; Input Device Type (IN) = [RF Trans. 3]; Transmitter Serial Number = [A] then [7-digit TXID]; Loop Number = [2].
5. Confirm the zone summary displays the parameters correctly.

Email Notification Setup (Alarm.com Accounts Only)

1. Navigate to http://www.alarm.com and click LOGIN.
2. On the systems dashboard, select the Security tab and click Sensors.
3. Identify the newly added sensor. Rename it if desired, then click Save.
4. Click the Notifications tab, then +New Notification. The Standard tab opens by default.
5. Click "Sensor Left Open," add parameters, and click +Add Recipient to add recipients for the notification.
6. Click Close once recipients are selected, then click Save Notification.
